Ok, I got the steering shake fixed, and the cruise control (easy stuff), still working on the tapping noise from the torque converter area (no loose bolts), but this morning something new, I turned the key to start it and it kind of bogged down like the battery was dead. Turned it off and tried again, this time smoke comes from the center console! So I break out the handy-dandy toolkit from the back of the rover and take out the console. Somehow when the key is turned to start it is shorting out my emergency brake cable!!! The smoke was from the plastic coating on the cable that is now melted plastic goo (and the brake would not release). After several colorful words to my Rover, followed by an apology, the Rover started and the brake released. Please tell me someone here has an idea where to start looking. Also, how do I get the emergency brake drum off? Drop rear D/S and it comes off?
Ahhh the joys of Rovering.
Thanks

Check your ground straps; current went to ground on ebrake cable.
