I used a tie down strap on the the A/C pulley and pulled really hard while I used an adjustable wrench on the fan nut which is reverse threaded (at least on the 3.9s). I had to remove the fan from the clutch first to make enough room for the wrench.
Hope that helps-

What year are you on, Paul? Usually, the right wrench (Snap-On sells the perfect thin 29mm) and a quick hammer tap will break it loose. Otherwise, you gotta use a wrench and a screwdriver to keep it from rotating.

The new pump has a regular thread (RH), so, from the front of the truck I unscrew the nut in a counterclockwise rotation. I like the idea of removing the fan first. I have a strap wrench with 2" webbbing and a 1/2" drive for holding the pulley. I found out that the water pump squeal (low rpms when hot only) may be the belt (new non-LR), so I'll get some belt dressing to see if it is, then get a REAL belt.....
