Having had my appetite wetted by the latest pictures from Moab, and as we are currently unable to undertake any kind of off-roading due to foot & mouth restrictions here in the UK, I would be grateful if anyone could pass on details of companies that specialise in off-road holidays in the USA (preferably using Land Rovers).
Many thanks.

Appalachian Overland Adventures
Contact Mike McCaig at LR88@aol.com.
They do a couple of trips a year, with some serious off-roading, combined with bed and breakfast overnights. Generally in the Virginia/West Virginia area.

If you really want an unforgettable vacation, forget about the east coast and head for the south west. Bill Burke is in Fruita, Colorado, which is about an hour or so from Moab. He can put together a nice package for you, but it would probably be expensive, since he does a lot of one on one training. Most people who have gone with him have been happy with what he puts together, though. He takes care of every little detail.
Another alternative would be to fly to Denver or Las Vegas, rent a car and drive to Moab from there. It's about an 8 hour drive from either, and both drives are scenic. Once in Moab, you could rent a Wrangler (heresy, I know, but I don't think they will let you bring your own Rover on the plane as carry-on luggage) from one of the rental places in town. I think Farrabees charge about $95/day including insurance. You could try to get hold of some of the locals through this BBS, I know Justin (/mail{disco2guy@disco2.com}) spends a lot of time in Moab. If that works out, you have somebody to wheel with, or you can get some maps and hit some trails on your own. Just excorsise good judgement in selecting the trails, don't try Pritchett Canyon or anything else on that level in a stock Wrangler by yourself.
Good Luck!

Axel

Also check out car rental companies. I had rented a Disco for a week through Enterprise at one time. But that was back in 97.

Enterprise still rents DSIIs, at least in Denver. And what they don't know won't hurt them ;^)

I do spent as much time as possible in Moab, and have quite a few folks in disco2owners from around the US that would be happy to help out. For what it is worth, we run a bunch of trips throughout the year, and not just in Moab. The kicker for the year is my "Ghost Towns of the Southwest" 7-day trip in September. We will be doing a # of the highest passes in Colorado and seeing some incredible scenery, off-road as much as possible. For more info, please email me.

Good luck, and holler if I can be of assistance, or if you settle on an area/time and need some contacts!
