Hi All,
I am in the process of changing my rear suspension. I was able to get the left rear cone, spring & shock installed properly. I managed to install the spring without using the spring compressor as I was unable to get it to compress straight and felt it was unsafe.
On the right rear, there is very little clearance between the upper spring mount and the body. I am not able to position the top plate for the RTE rear cone to bolt through. The culprit seems to be some kind of a nut protruding down from the body just above the upper spring mount. Does anyone know what this is ? It seems to be hollow with some kind pf plastic/urethane (??) innards.
Anyone have this problem ? I am not sure if this is specific to my Disco or if it is an issue with all Discos while installing the rear cones.
Any help would be appreciated.

From memory, I think it is one of four threaded holes in the rear load space to attach D rings.The plastic plugs just push out, upwards (lift up the carpet).

Ok. I figured this out. I had to jack up the body using the RTE sliders and I was able to slip the plate thru.

Had the same problemo...
You can do 1 of 2 things:
1 - cut about 3/8" off that bolt before installing.
2 - twist the cone and upper plate slightly until the end of the bolt clears the welded nut.
I did # 2...Cone still does it's job just fine.

Are you talking about the bolt that goes thru the cone and the top plate ? The ones I got were the right length and I did not have to cut it. The problem I had was that the welded nut was so close to the upper spring mount that I could not slide the top plate for the cone between the upper spring mount and the body. I had to lift the body to slide the plate through.

yeah...depends on your truck...
I didn't have to use the "crowbar" technique to lift the body, thank god, but the bolt that holds the cone up to the top plate (when tightened)(on mine) does poke out the top of the plate far enough to hit that welded nut.
I guess you could just break it off the body sheetmetal and relocate that indoor tie-down?
