1st - I am still tracking down some vibration since I put on my 2" Rovertym's. I was under the truck and noticed that there is some play on the T-case side of the front drive-shaft. It isn't in the drive shaft but actually where the drive-shaft mounts to the T-case (the T-case mount is the best way I can describe). Is this normal or should it be rock solid like on the rear drive-shaft?

2nd - What the heck is that steel wheel sitting on the front suspension under the passenger side at the end of the steering damper?

Thanks in advance

That might be the cause of your vibration, actually I'll bet it probably is. A 2" lift shouldn't cause any vibes. My lift is about 3" and I have no vibes whatsoever.

The mysterious steel wheel is a harmonic stabilizer or dampener, I forget. It's supposed to dampen vibrations, but from what I've heard from people who have knocked theirs off, there is no difference with or without it. I can't confirm this, since I haven't knocked mine off yet..only a matter of time though ;).

In response to #2, I believe it's called a harmonic dampener. A bunch of people have removed them one way or another (mine was removed for me by a rock when wheeling). I never replaced mine and never had any ill effects.

1. This is normal, but not right. The bearing on the input to the T-box is worn and should be replaced or something like that. The lift accentuated this problem. Seen it on 3 trucks in the last week.

#1 $50 says that is why you have a vibration, I too have 3" of lift and no vibe.

#2 A harmonic dampner is a basically a big metal plate, but I don't think what you are seeing is it. The harmonic balancer is bolted together with the crank pulley to the crankshaft (pulley at the bottom of the engine) it is there essentially to keep the crank shaft from wobbling which would damage the front main bearing. I believe the thing you are referring to is just there for protection. I could be wrong, but I can't see how that plate in it's position could dampen vibrations. But then again I am not a mechanical engineer. I do know that there is a harmonic balancer behind the crank pulley though.

To you 3" lifted fellows,
Are you running the Rovertym and did you do any other mods (rearlinks, radius arms)? I am more like a 2 1/2 lift since John designed it with an nice bumper/winch up front which I don't have yet. Personally I feel it has to be something with my truck because it doesn't seem like any one has the probs I do. I have had the truck since new and I have always had a little vibe just before the shift at 50 mph but now that is much worse (starts at 40mph-55mph). I'm just now starting to wrench on this rig so I have much to learn about what to expect. Thanks for all the info.

Not all Land Rovers are created equal. Thats the beauty of our trucks. I had the same vibe problems with OME HDs. Some measurements on some trucks are off just a hair and cause no efect under stock conditions, but when you get into lifting and incresing angles they become very apparent. Try bent trailing arms from SG or Rovertym for the rear, or pop a Series II front driveshaft as that is probably the root of the issue. The shaft is shorter so the angle more severe. The DII shaft is CV type and is a direct fit to a DI, but the CV elimates the problem. You could also try a castor correction kit ot SG shafts or Tom Woods shafts. Its not an uncommon problem but its not common either. You are just lucky enough to have a Disco thats a bit off. The same issue caused me many headaches. Good Luck

Really,
I will have to check that out. I want one.

How much for the DII shaft?

Thanks,
Mike

Do you have a parts list for the swap?

Thanks 1000x
