98 Disco TDi Manual.
When changing from 1st to 2nd gear ,at anything over a couple of
thosand revs, I get a crunching noise from the gearbox. This didnt
happen when new and it doesnt seem to be getting worse.
Could it be a synchromesh problem?
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Is the clutch fully (dis)engaging. Try pumping the clutch twice for the change and see if it still happens.

I've just had a new gearbox fitted - after the fifth/reverse layshaft broke under benign conditions.
I frequently have to "double clutch" between first and second on the new box. Been driving Rovers for 30+ years, so double clutching is no big deal. Still, though, you shouldn't have to....

Ron, i pump twice in my disco 97 because i fill clutch isnn't fully disengagged.
Is there any adjustment to do or the clutch pump is not o.k.?

Bleed the cylinder to get new fluid in there and to make sure no air is in it. If that fails there is an adjustment for it but I not sure exactly how on a disco. if all this fails or if you cylinders are leaking then you need to rebuild or replace slave and or master cylinder.
