Help! I'm in Phoenix and it's almost May. Got the AC recharged and when it blows, it blows cold. However, it blows hot after a minute or so. If I wait a bit and cycle the switch, it repeats. Any ideas?

Hi, mine does so occasionally, and a little tapping on the switch makes it work again. Just beginning fall down here, so I'll wait to next summer to have the switch replaced.

Whoever recharged your system put too much refrigerant in and it's causing your condenser coil to freeze-up. I'd take it back to them and request they correct their error (unless you had it done at a dealer. Then they did it on purpose LOL). Out of curiosity, does a fog blow from the vents when it starts cooling? Usually that's a sign of an overcharged cooling system, but that doesn't always have to occur. Regardless, when you cut it off, it's enough of a break to allow the coil to thall somewhat, so it will work correctly when you cut it back on. It should re-freeze eventually, though. Have it checked.

Also may be bad AC selector or fan speed switch (at the electrical contact level). Had similar problem with wife's Infiniti traced to plain old bad switch. However, AC on my Phx Disco was playing games last year - on max setting would blow and blow cold, then stop altogether. Cycling switch would cure problem. I cleaned spilled soda out of switch (thanks, honey!) and problem stopped. Since you just had a recharge done, maybe it was over-recharged - I don't particulars of AC system well, but it's getting over 90 out here, so it'll be a problem! Ever hit the trails?......

How did you get the switch out? My AC stopped working for a few seconds when it was on full and recirculation selected. Thought I'd check for spilled soda before going to the dealer...Doug

To get that switch out, you have to remove the whole center dash panel and then pull the climate control unit out. The Haynes manual tells you how, but it'd be a lot to write in this space provided. Email me if you wanna know everything.
