About every third day my ignition switch & key acts up. I park, shift to "P" turn the key anti-clockwise to turn off the engine - then the key won't rotate any further so I can remove it! I press the brake, turn the steering wheel back and forth, restart the engine, and shift back and forth but it just hangs up at this point where you are suppose to push in and then turn to remove the key. Anybody share this problem or know what I'm dealing with? Is it part of an electrical system switch connected to the parking brake or am I just not doing it right?

SOme times if it isnt all the way in park or you dont push it in as you are turning back it gets hung. Mine does it from time to time. Among other things :)

My 94 locked up alot. Landrover East told me it's common and it's $300.00+ for the new key switch and about the same for labor. My 96 did that only once a while back .

My 93 had a problem where the key wouldn't turn. Pulled it (key) out and turned it over and sometimes it would work. Tried spraying the lock assembly with silicon spray etc helped a little but eventually I had to replace the ignition lock assembly. Ended up fitted a late model second hand unit and saved heaps. Only problem is my doors etc are a different key. Keyless door entry makes this OK though. Apparently a heavy set of keys hanging from the ignition can eventually stuff up most ignition locks - not just Land Rover. My wife's Toyota is also playing up.

A Porsche,1 VW and Hondas I've owned all did this too. I think brittish parts.com has them for around $180.00. But for security reasons it's a lot of work to do your self, on any car.
