My 96 doesn't start like it used to.

I had to jumpstart it the other day, even though the battery is perfect.
It barely started and ran with a really high idle at 1500-2000 rpm.

Could it be that the starter itself is "jammed" or something, making it turn slowly.
And then maybe the solenoid sticks and producing an engine brake......

Have you guys had this happened?

That doesn't sound like a starter problem.

But yes - LR OEM starters are notorious for dying
horrible deaths when subjected to excess heat
or muddy/sandy water baths. Usually they just
refuse to engage when you turn the key. It'll
happen a few times over a period of months, then
they just stop - period.

Keith is right on both accounts, it doesn't sound like a starter problem or if it is, there is another problem too. As far as the starter, I just replaced mine and went with an aftermarket Mean Green starter. A LOT CHEAPER then what the dealer wanted though you can track one down though a parts place for less. I paid a little over $300 and my truck start very quickly. I am amazed at the power that the starter has. Keep that in mind if you replace it. Also if you replace it and want some advice on the process shoot me an e-mail.
