How much boost is there and how do I measure it. where can I get a boost meter and where do I fit it.
Also is there a convenient place to get an oil pressure guage to operate.

my read out from the after market guage i installed is 15 psi... roughly about 1 bar. as per engine spec. the TDI is higly boosted engine compare to other stock turbo diesel. they are trying to extract every HP out but could only get 111 hp :(

Rom,
The tdi is highly boosted in order to gain the best power/torque for economy ratio... why is the tdi a dog off boost? Because a 4 cylinder 2.5L naturally aspirated diesel will never move 2.5 tonnes of truck anywhere quick...
Other manufacturers 4 cylinder turbo diesels are 2.8 or 3.0L engines and the 6 cylinder diesels are up to 4.2L engines with enough power to drive the vehicle with no turbo. These engines have enough base line power/torque without a turbo, thus needing less boost from the turbo to give the engine a kick along. Those same engines aint ever going to get 8L/100km though?
The tdi isnt over boosted to the point of causing engine problems, they last half a million kays and dont explode... increasing the boost may upset them so why would you bother?

I agree steve and I have heard just like u mentioned that the engine can cover a lot of milage before there is a need to retire. Anyway, for those driving the TDI, its difficult not to notice the turbo lag at start off (until the engine hits 2000 rpm) Start up on the uphill in high first is sometime a struggle. For offroading if u need to start on the steep incline the low range 2nd or 1st is a must. but once u get moving everything seems to be okay. I like the economy the truck gives though.
