PISMO BEACH/OCEANO STATE PARK
August 24-26
Oceano Dunes is a 3,600 acre off road area unique to California State Parks. The 5 1/2 miles of beach and 1,500 acres of dunes attract Land Rovers from all over who are thirsty for sand.

Activities will include: Techniques of sand driving, followed by Dune'n it; Recovery Challenge; Second annual Tiger Woods Sand Spectacular; Remote control dune buggy Time Trial; and a "Night on the Moon" GPS Challenge.

DIRECTIONS


Located 90 minutes north of Santa Barbara off Hwy 1.

Take 101 north to Arroyo Grande.

Exit Grand turn left (West) 2.7 mi.

Pacific, turn left (South) 1 mi.

Pier, turn right (West) .4 mi.

Oceano State Park. Camping fee: $6.00. Get a Map at Park entrance.

CAMPSITE DIRECTIONS

Go to SAND HIGHWAY.

Air down to 15 lbs.

Follow Sand Highway markers.

Follow SCLR signs to camp site. (It will be very obvious)

Bring food and 2 gal. of water per person per day and a sense of adventure! Saturday evening we will have fish and chips at the park entrance. Camping is excellent with clean toilets and good company.
This is not your average Trail Ride.

Anyone want to head up Friday mid day? We can join the Saturday caravan, but our schedule is wide open Friday as well.

Question related to this trip. Since it is my first off-road trip here in CA; where I come from (Florida) we always install the "limb risers" before off-roading. Are they needed here in CA? Are there that many obstacle branches and bushes?

If anyone from San Gabriel Valley (Pasadena, Arcadia, Altadena, etc.) is going to Pismo and want to caravan, please let me know. I was going to caravan with O.C. people but I offered to pick up my little brother on Sat. a.m. and introduce him to Land Rover and he lives in Arcadia.

Jeff - you up for meeting at the 10/405 interchange somewhere and then convoying up? Don't worry, my Defender is just as slow as your Series. If you can make it, reply here or shoot me an email.

Sorry for the belated reply.

My schedule tomorrow is very flexible. I can convoy up to Pismo basically any time tomorrow or even Saturday for that matter. I spoke with Jeff Bieler on the phone yesterday, and he's not certain he's going up on Friday; he may leave early Saturday morning.

Let me know when you're available and I'll join you on the road.

Friday is pretty much out. The Series won't be up until mid-day tomorrow and I want to drive around a bit to settle the suspension, etc. before I jump on the freeway for a few hours.

Do you guys know when/where people are meeting on Saturday? The info sheet at SCLR is pretty vague...

I'm not sure, but I believe people are just meeting in Pismo and different groups are convoying separately.

Maybe we can still convoy together if Jose can't make it on Friday. We'll see.

I am ready for Friday. Steve (steve2) is not going but he received the recovery shackle/receiver and I'd like to pick it up tomorrow. He is in Long Beach. I am just grinding my teeth - I haven't been to Pismo in sooo long and it's one of my favorites. Unfortunately, we have to attend a wedding Saturday (can't back out!). This would have been a good trip considering besides brush bar and tires our new Disco 2 is bone stock. We're going to join SCLR and try to make a few trips. Have fun all! (I know you will)

Are you local (LA or OC area)?. I'd to go to Azusa, where Javier got recovered from yesterday morning. Maybe we can put a 1/2 trip to that area in Azusa, it is only like 40 minutes from OC. I'll be posting soon.
