ROVERS will be holding version II of our RTV Trials event on Saturday, November 3 in Robesonia, PA. Timing for the event is planned with an 8:00-8:30 am start and finishing by 4:00 pm
The first version of this held earlier in the year prooved to be quite challenging, so this one should be even a bit more devious.....
Event and trials site is being administered by and was built by ROVERS LR club and is open to both members and non-members.
There are faxable information and registration forms available, so please feel free to contact me for that at [email protected] or for any other information, you may contact Steve Hoare at [email protected]
Thanks,
Bill Bettridge

evan was planning on going, but i am just glad i don't have to drive that beast series of his this time. my hairline has receeded a few inches from the MAR drive. but i am planning on heading there as well. not sure about that start time for me. it is a good 2 hour ride for me and saturday mornings are not easy.
By Axel Haakonsen (Axel) on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 - 12:29 pm: Edit |
I am going to try and make it, too. I will be bringing the camcorder. I'm in the same boat as Garret, it's a long ride for me as well, so I don't know when I'll get there.

Kyle,
Its a quarry or was one. The trails run around it, or rather up and down the hill. It is kinda slow to do because it is a TRIAL, ie drive through canes and get points off when you hit them.
It is HARD. There are like 12 stages. And it is pretty much the only time you will get to drive on the land. Lots of trees and rocks to avoid and generally hard terrian. Lots of obsitcals packed into a small space. Not like Mar where there is like one hard part for a 1/2 mile trail.
Plus there won't be that many people there and I am sure we can all try the big hill when we are done

Ron,
This place ever open to the public apart from the trials? Trials are not really my thing. And I heard some got a loada damage from this event.
By gp (Garrett) on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 - 02:13 pm: Edit |
just claim in on your insurance as, "i came back out to my truck after grocery shopping and all this shit happened"........"damn shopping cart handlers."
could be entertaining anyhow. stand around long enough and i bet ron or his fiancé will break something. least i got to see her try and drive over that boulder at like 35 mph. missed rons 'lean' with the series at MAR.
By Ron on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 - 02:13 pm: Edit |
Last time it was a mess. I could not go but my understanding was it was really muddy and slick and some people who were advised that they might have issues did (I think the worst was a busted up DII front airdam/bumper). Definatelly a potential for damage but easy to aviod and as it is said if you don't feel comfortable just take a pass on the section. It seems dryer this time so it should not be as bad but I don't know for sure.
As far as open to the public not as such but I am sure there will be some time to run around and try the big hill afterwards.
If you want to just drive around you really have to go to a work day. of course you have to work to but . . . it is not much work other than making sure the sections are feasible.
I don't plan on running trials personally, I will probably just help out with marshalling, recovery, etc but I will be there.

By Ron on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 - 02:15 pm: Edit |
Yes,
I will probably be able to break something simply by watching this is of course assuming the series actually makes it under its own power to Robesonia
But alas you will not see Alyssa as she has to work.

that's too bad. evan will miss riding shotgun with her. he had to go to therapy after the ride up the hill. i wish that was on video. good stuff. hopefully his ankle is healed up enough to drive his truck on the course.

LOL,
I was like a couple hundred yards away and when the tire went it sounded like a cannon.
vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
BOOM!!

Takes a lot to do that kind of damage when you are running bias plys at 50psi.

Ron, (ouch! that musta hurt!)
Chicken LOL! Damn, just got my cdl fixed up too.
No, I just went the the LR sponsored event in Bedminster, and there were three courses - one was a tear-around coned as fast as you can while not hitting any (of couse I smashed two), but its not really what I went for. The other two were trails and much more fun
But I'll still be ready for you and Noah (Nelly?) some other time
Dean
By Ron on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 - 02:46 pm: Edit |
Ok Dean,
Whatever you say I think you will wait to get 35s and full lockers and front and rear bumpers and whatever else before you take on poor old Noah and I.
Speed is not considered. As long as you don't come to a full stop or back up no points are assessed. Slower is better.
It is like a trail but people just keep score and you have to make a vain attempt not to hit the white PVC poles. You definately learn a LOT about how to drive, as when you hit a pole it is a lot less of an issue than when you hit a tree

PS $10 and a sledge hammer and wheel and tire were as good as new.
Love them free series wheels

Ron,
Ok, I'll be there.
Larry (SOLO) are you readin this? I guess we can do the barrens another time. If you want to ride with me that could be a plan. Or convoy if you want to try this stuff out yourself.
Steve H - ignore my last email. Not time to send a check can I pay cash at the event?
Anyone else from the central NJ area, or heading along Rt 78 into Pa?
Dean
By Evan Price on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 - 08:29 pm: Edit |
Garrett , Exactly what do you mean by "beast" ? I though you thought Rover was a babe magnet...........
Ron , I'll pass on anymore co-driving with Alyssa , My therapist had just begun to break through my adversion to loud noises.
Jeff Wilson wheeled most of the sections on Saturday and the course is totally different than it was in June. I'll be there but I'm not going to enter as I'll be marshalling.
Hope to see ya there !

great to see that you have finally seen the light (discoweb) and that you have finally broken your silence. was wondering what i would have to say to get you to speak up. calling ROVER a beast can only be a good thing. with the 33" tires i felt like BJ McKay driving a drop top Peterbuilt. but after 5+ hours in your rig i felt like someone took me behind the Gas n Sip and beat me with a sock full of coke cans and some oversized Slim Jim sticks. pretty rough on ya. especially a punk like me that is use to driving a non beast of a rover. i only wish i had a beast. i am working on it with my truck and will be there in time. and hopefully in time i will also get my hands on a series truck. pacing myself. need to build a house first.
and yes that thing has to be a babe magnet. i thought the ladies were checking me out on the way home, but i am sure that it was just the truck they were checking out. but either way its good for the ego!!! you should be use to loud noises with that IIA. having a semi pass you doing 75 mph in a construction zone with 10' lanes is not all the peaceful. but regardless a fun truck to have no matter what. just get that master cylinder fixed before you let me drive it again. i almost lost all bodily functions a few times when i forgot to pump the brakes a few times before quick stops. that or give me some diapers to wear.

What's with this?
The RoversClub.com web site is saying:
R.O.V.E.R.S Work Day for the Trials Event is on the 3rd, and the actual event on the 11th.
Am I missing the point? The messages up top seem to suggest otherwise.
By Ron on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 04:55 am: Edit |
Incorrect.
Actual event this weekend.

Ron,
Ok. Just thought I lost a few more marbles.
If it rains tomorrow, do you think Noah will make it up the hill?

I doubt she will make it up even if it is dry

By the way , are the bets still on ? Whos payin up? Dean ?

Oh ya, bets. The only question is whether the series will actually run. LOL
Hehehe

By Dean Brown (Deanbrown3d) on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 01:55 pm: Edit |
Well, at least there's no pressure now.
No I really am trying to learn the ways of the wise, because I know my hill climbing sucks (from the namby pamby hill climb at the LR event last month). I might need someone with me to show me the ropes (without wrecking my rig)
Dean
Ps Who's taking part in the actual event, and who's spectating?
By Dean Brown (Deanbrown3d) on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 01:57 pm: Edit |
> further up that hill...
You mean we're gonna fail at some point, and not reach the top? Damn. Glad I got the CDL now
By Ron on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 02:00 pm: Edit |
Ya Dean,
No pressure.
Despite the fact that I want to see the DII come back looking like Marty's truck (see gallery) I don't want anyone to get hurt or wreck their truck.
I don't think it is doable without lockers but we will see now won't we.
Maybe Kyle will go it a shot. If nothing else he can winch himself over
Ron

Oh I get dragged in now.....lol , funny how that works.... I aint gonna participate in the stick thing there. Ax and I are gonna "Observe" I think...
Kyle
By Ron on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 02:22 pm: Edit |
I am watching too.
The Big Hill is not related to the stick thing.
Just a hill I have been itching to try since Steve tried it in the 49 SI and came pretty close to almost making. Same property not part of the course.

By Eric N (Grnrvr) on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 02:22 pm: Edit |
Please post the video of the series spanking every body up that hill. I got to see this but, can't make it up there.
By Kyle on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 02:25 pm: Edit |
Hmmm , I dont think it will spank "Everyone" but I am quite sure it will spank that ETC , and Dean , no locking that center diff either. These bets were made before that...
Kyle
By Dean Brown (Deanbrown3d) on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 03:11 pm: Edit |
Kyle how would you know its locked?
Dean
By Dean Brown (Deanbrown3d) on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 03:12 pm: Edit |
So neither Kyle, Ax or Ron are gonna take part? Why?
By Eric N (Grnrvr) on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 03:13 pm: Edit |
Little light on the dash would give it away which I believe is there and works on the D2 for some reason.
By Ron on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 03:14 pm: Edit |
We are too lazy to get there on time.
Ron
By Dean Brown (Deanbrown3d) on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 03:18 pm: Edit |
Yeah the idea of getting up at 5am is worrying me more than that bloody hill.
Doesn't anyone have a photo of Ron's Big Hill?
By Bill Bettridge (Billb) on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 03:32 pm: Edit |
I'll be there driving as will a few other folks who frequent the Dweb -
Ron - I'll brow-beat you into it!
It's not that damn scary (except for the hill which is not part of the course) - just challenging.
Looking forward to seeing folks there

By Bill Bettridge (Billb) on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 03:39 pm: Edit |
Getting there early and driving all day
See you there.
By Ron on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 03:50 pm: Edit |
Good luck.
You better beat Noah as she is the one who will need help.
I still have to figure out how to make Noah charge right. The RR is losing its battery for a day thats for sure and I am throwing the tow bar in the back in case I need to call Alyssa
I figure with teh batt from the RR I am good for the trip there and back on VFR.

Naaah, hill isn't anywhere near that steep, but it is rocky and has a big damn boulder about halfway up (or down depending on your perspective )
Problem in the area is that since it's an old quarry - it's treed over, but all rocks underneath - it kinda fools you a bit.
By Kyle on Friday, November 02, 2001 - 04:42 pm: Edit |
Well , lets let the ETC smoke first,,,,lol

Let's hear some stories.

Actually - no one did the big hill - got too dark too early - oh well, maybe next time
Still, seems like most had a good time
