I came across the B2B website recently and it looks like quite an interesting trek. I am interested to know if anyone here has participated and their feedback on their experience.

Also, does anyone know if they have plans for 2002 yet?

Thanks

I've read a little bit on another Canadian / Eastern Alaska trek in 02. I'm not sure how this past years (TA01 August) event qualified as "Border to Border" in nature, but whatever.

I've attempted to convince the organizers to go from Canada to Mexico (a repeat of the original TA trek), or even better - a ten day event from the Mexican border to Belize (Land Rover parts heaven) and back. SOLAROS made this trip some years back without incident, and my friends run an insurance business that could make all the necessary Mexico provisions.

I've also submitted a membership application to Border to Border over a year ago without reply. I've been patient, but I'm thinking Discoweb might be a better spot to organize my Belize expedition for 02.

I'm working on kitting out my D1 this winter and early spring for a mid to late summer trip in 02.

I've spent some time in Baja, not too far south though. What percentage is off-road and how much on? I'm working on the premise of a rooftop tent presently and petrol to suffice for 700 miles at a stretch.

What are you thinking of, and what size group would interest you?

so you want to do a 700 mile stretch all off road? cool...but lots of gas to carry..there are plenty of gas stations throughout baja..ones that are accesible from off road locales...we plan on going down this winter around the end of nov or the 1st of dec until the begining of april...you can do almost all of baja off road..mixing it up from sierra pine forest with red granite..to desert style..to the beach....all depends on time and drive..when we go down my girlfriend and i plan on doing several trips the way down the coast...also coming back...punta conejo 75 miles south to todos santos (just 45 miniutes north of cabo..) that should be really cool...also planning on going up to the 10000 foot peak there south of ensenada..whats the name...any way maybe we would be up for another baja adventure in summer..(its hot) we both know baja well...keep me posted we would be into it!!!!! if you can meet us down there there winter come ,...anyone else interested?

Erik, You will wait a long time for the B2B folks to ever contact you! I think if your in the "group" you get contacted with info etc, but newbies tend to get overlooked all the time. It's really a shame. It's not quite a scam, but a lot of unfullfilled promises have been left with that organization.

Meet some friends here and organize the trip the way you want to trip to be.

I'm VERY interested in US/Mex border to Belize and back. Depending on where you start, you're talkin a few thousand miles...

Like Paul said, "Meet some friends here and organize the trip the way you want the trip to be."

Bluegill,

When the hell are we just going to get together anyway. We're interested in the same things, you're just a year or two ahead of me in mods!

I've been pushing for a SOLAROS-style Belize event for some time now as a ten-day trip - down the Trans-America and off-road. Naturally, you're in NM/AZ area so this might be easier than a trip to Baja, no? I'm serious about a trip, however, my wife and I are expecting in February / March and this will certainly affect my participation before summer or next fall.

I've promised myself that as soon as I finish a few key credit card payments that I'm taking all my incentive checks to the Bank of Land Rover for:

RT 2" HD
RTE Sliders
AB Underbody Protection Kit
BFG Crossterrains 245/75/16
Adventure Rack / Peli Cases, Jerry Cans

You know my deal, working guy with family just like you - but the expedition thing is how I plan to spend my next two week vacation. Gill, drop me a line anytime since you have my numbers.

Regarding Border to Border,

I received a nice email from a B2B participant / organizer regarding the TA02 Trek set for the West Coast in September, San Diego to Canada.

Erik-

Can you fill us in a little more about the event? Routes, dates, etc?

Jay,

The next TransAmerica Trek is scheduled from San Diego to Canada with diversions through Moab among others. I'm not organizing it, just a member. Tentative dates have us departing SD on September 2nd and finishing up on the 12th.

I spoke to a couple of guys that went on the trip to Belize from SOLAROS a few years back....we have started to make tentative arrangements for a similar trek in '02. At the moment, we are looking at the first week in December, coming back sometime before Christmas. They said when they went before....the summer months were just entirely too hot....especially for those in Series trucks! Overall, they said December was just much more comfortable as far as the weather goes.

At the moment, we've only got three trucks going...2 110's and my Disco. One of the ideas we are exploring is to have those that cannot make the long driving trip down fly into Cancun (my wife finds that to be an excellent option!), and then drive down to Belize. The SOLAROS guys say it's about 5 hours from Cancun to the Belizian border. Cancun will also make a good stopping point for a nice hotel and a place to do laundry, etc. We have no plans to make this any form of a missionary trip like they did, but the idea has not been ruled out.

I am located in Somerset NJ and would be happy to keep everyone informed as we hopefully turn this into a reality. Like a few others here, I've wanted to do this since they went a few years ago!

Chris,

I'm keenly interested in the Belize trip - any chance you might push it into the early winter of 03? January / February would keep us cool and I'd have a new set of holiday hours at hand. I'll email you my information.

Cheers,

Erik

I may be interested in tagging along, depending on scheduling. I was already planning a fall trip to Moab next year, maybe I could postpone it and follow you guys down South.

now, where is that darn passport?

Thanks

Jan/Feb of 03 works for me. I've asked one of the two that are interested....and that time frame seems to work for them as well. Likewise....I too should have some more vacation time by then, which is definitely a good thing!

I look forward to hearing from you....I will forward you my contact info as well. Anyone that's interested is always welcome!

Gentleman, I live in Northern Delaware and would also love to participate. I'm currently re-working my second Disco for such a trip to Belize. I did however make a connection with the owner of www.landroverzone.com He was a very nice individual and he is actually running trips in Belize with rented D90's. The trips are for a week each and everything is included. A Land Rover technician from Belize is also following with the coordinator in a support vehicle. The trips are running from Feb-June. I'm seriously interested either way but thought this may be of interest. Also heard someone say they are from NJ??? Looking for locals in my neck of the woods for Disco info.
