Well, this IS kind of odd, having a Series board on DiscoWeb, but hey, I won't gripe at all.... let's make a good go of this!!!

BTW... I guess they'll be questions of such... so to clear the air for those who aren't aware... (bear w/ me, guys, it may seem obvious, but check out LRX and see how many can unknowingly end up butchering their posts)

Yes, Land Rover, with the introduction of the "new and improved" Discovery brought back their old terminology by calling it a "Series II", thus making the original Discovery a "Series I".

This terminology dates back to 1958. After its first 10 years, Rover revamped "the Land Rover", giving it its first major face-lift. Thus, the Series II Land Rover was born. Earlier Rovers then became the Series I. With minor revisions in 1961, the Series II became the Series IIa. In late 1971, another revamping created the Series III.

In 1983, the leaf-sprung Rovers came to an end with the introduction of the coil-sprung 110 and then the 90. Although these have occasionally been referred to as the Series IV, that moniker never stuck.

Although this is DiscoWeb, this particular board will focus on the older Series Land Rovers, not the different versions of the Disco.

(As I said, I'm mostly preaching to the choir, but for those newer Roverphiles, it may help to have a bit of history). If you want to know more, surf the web!!! It's all out there..... And ASK! We can tell ya, too.....

I'm glad we have a little corner. The splits on the yahoo board between leaf sprung and coil sprung Rovers is well known. The RN board is a joke. Someone at RN had better wise up. It can't be good for their image to let that trash linger.

Anyway, some of us are fortunate enough to play in both worlds (leaf and coil). I'm not a vehicle snob. What ever makes someone happy is their problem. I don't argue the virtues, I just enjoy what I have. IMHO, those that drive Discos and Series trucks get the best and worst of both worlds. Equally cursed. Equally blessed.
