As a loyal Disco owner I was really excited about the Freelander until I finally saw one the past few weekends. I do link it- But not at a base of $25K, where before it looks nice I am already out over $30K. For a few thousand more you can have a Disco II with special financing or get a steal on a low mileage (10-15K miles) Disco II for well under $30K.
At our local auto show folks were commenting on the disparity in price between the Disco & Freelander. I heard one prospective buyer comment on why would anyone shell out close to $30K for a midget sport ute - when you can have a real one for a few grand more.
To make matters worse, I talked to someone from the dealership and found that after 3 weeks they have only sold 2 Freelanders - with about 7 still in stock.
What have others heard??

Yup, I agree. I've looked them up and down at my dealer. It seems the 'base' model is selling well at the dealer, but the HK version hasn't moved off the lot yet. The sales guys said they are discounting big. I don;t think they understand that they need to sreflect a lower price up front in order to bring in customers...
How many of the 'landers do they plan on selling in NAS this year?

The story I hear is they want to sell 20K units in 2002, that's about 150 freelanders per dealer!!
