Didn't LR use the Freelander in the CT? What mods did they have to do I wonder. Anyone know? I think it could be a good truck, and I'm sure someone in the aftermarket will figure out a way to get better traction with lockers or something for offroad. its a nice little rover, but a bit pricey, although, I often wonder why the Disco is so costly, then I remember the guts of the truck. Perhaps its a similar thing with the Freelander. THoughts?

I have the CT video(tierra del fuego) with the Freelanders. Quite a capable little truck. They have roof-mounted lights (4 of them) enlcosed in a one-piece shell thingy attached on the roof. Looked good. They have reinforced(?) skid plates, bars and winch. They drove through snow, dessert, and some mud. I guess it's a good contender in its class.

Whatr about lack of transfer case? How do you get around that?
Do the video show lot's of tires spinning?

I bet Rover will have an "optional for a kidney"
locker you can get....at least soon.

The Freelander has a transfer case with a viscous coupling, but no low gear.

Freelander is pretty simply a modified final drive that normally goes to the Front wheels only (see Rover 827), runs to a IRD a viscous coupling to the rear wheels. Initally at least the rear final drive ration was different to the front...makes me wonder if thats the reason so many freelanders had tire wear problems

BTW, it was the 1998 Camel Trophy (Tierra del Fuego). It was the last CT that LR provided the vehicles. The final CT was 1999 with Honda CRVs (blah!).
I have two screen savers that I downloaded from LR's site in Dec 1998. Email me if you want either or both. Note, the screensavers don't like WinNT/Win2000, only Win 95 through WinME. They have very cool pics of the Freelander in that CT.

yeah, that light pad is sweeet. look good on the roof of a Disco if it was mounted well, like under a higher roofrack, like a hannibal or a Brownchurch..

Oops, you all probably caught it. But there was no CT in 1999 and the final CT, using Honda CRVs was 2000.

read in a LRO a few months back - the light pod/rack combo is 1300gbs - or $1950.00! makes the adventure rack look cheap!!
