Don't want to get flamed, but can I please get a Classic Range Rove tech section-
just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask-if not I still feel at home in the Disco Conversation. Let me think about this-ummmmm, nevermind-don't add it. We will start to get more lurkers from the North......Oh I still like the North for my parts.

Hey good idea. I have a cream puff 1995 RR Classic with 52,000 miles, BFG AT 245 75's, OME MD coil conversion with Bilstein shocks, front and rear diff guards and a front skid plate. Runs strong, and my sole source for technical assistance is the RRO email list.

Hey Ron, your Rig gets a nod. Well you do know that your interior is identicle to the Disco I, and we do spend a lot of time here. Whada' you say we start our on conversation. Do you think we will get anywhere near 200 replies on this thread? Your Rover is probably my twin, only in Cream and not BRG-How do you like your front skid plate? I'm bare exposed up front. Just an ARB and some Safari 5000's(I still have my Hella 4000's, and Warn winch in the box-), front and rear Diff protection from Alantic British. Oh and I have 114,??? miles on the engine. OME MD coils, and all the EAS stuff still underneath, waiting for Santa to drop off the shocks in my stocking, and biting my nails trying to find a set of black letter BFG's-
Do you have any pics- where a you located?

Here it is, Happy Holidays!

94rover,
The interior of my 1995 Classic is much different from that of my 1997 Disco. I'll send some photos to Ho and he can update my gallery.
I like the front skid plate. I removed the air dam and fogs when i got it. Took it to the Camp Rover East rally in May 2001 and wheeled it hard up some class 3 and 4 trails. Dented up my front diff housing, destroyed my steering damper and track rod. Then I got the 245 75s and another inch or two clearance.
Mine's beluga black with the cream interior, front factory brush guard, rear light guards, genuine mesh dog guard, and a set of Hella 1000's up front.

I'm glad to see theres a Rangie board. I have a 93' LWB. So far I have put the SG stage 2 springs, Rancho 9000's, RTE shock Mounts and cones, Steel bake lines, Rovers North Diff Guard, K&N Filter, Genuine waterproof seats, OME steering damper. Got a set of 235/85 black letter BFG KM's. Gonna put a detriot in the rear with GBR HD axles, and after that its bumpers and sliders. Still goin strong at 115,500 miles, though it does have a new tranny.

Art,
Nice looking Rangie - same color as mine. I have a 93' SWB with factory brush guard and lamp guards, OME MD suspension with steering dampner, and 235/85 Futura M/T's. Like many others, I am also waiting on Santa for some more mods, specifically undercarriage protection and a Detroit in the rear.
I second 94Rover for thanking the Discoweb admin team for the creation of this board. Although completely satisfied with the Disco discussion (I also have a 2001 DII),this will double my fun and knowledge base. I look forward to learning from everyone's experiences.

craig - how hard was it to get rid of the viscous and switch to the LT230, does the lt 230 have the inside the cab diff lock lever, did you just cut it through the dash?
By Craig on Wednesday, December 05, 2001 - 08:25 pm: Edit |
Sam-
Not too difficult
Had to find a tbox shifter assembly from a 97d90 or disco1. minor cutting to allow for movement of difflock feature. new driveshafts. etc..
If your are thinking of doing the swap, and are looking for better high range gears, look for a d110 tbox. the highrange is a little deeper than the 90 or disco. It wasn't cheap, but possibly the best mechanical mod I've done so far.
George at roversdownsouth.com can supply a 110 box for you. Tell him 'that psycho at Denver East' sent you.
Regards,
Craig

Yeah buddy! Craig, I'm planning on doing the 4.6 and LT230 conversion in the near future too. Got me a box out of a '87RR and got a line on a 4.6 short block locally. I might port out the heads if it helps, although it's a bit tired. The GBR low-low gearset for a LT230 is a little pricey though! That'd be the ultimate crawlin gear though.

The ticket to ride is to run 4.7s in the difs but with 1.003 high range out of a tf727 RR Lt230
You get close to stock/4.10s but with a better crawl low range. Conversion is cheaper than most other options.
Ron
By Ali on Thursday, December 06, 2001 - 03:01 pm: Edit |
With this much low crawl ratio, can you stop easily?
By Ron on Thursday, December 06, 2001 - 05:01 pm: Edit |
I dunno yet.
Do the math
1.22x 4.1= 5ish
1.003x 4.7= 4.7
You are a little higher geared than 4.1 and stock tcase in high but in low you are
3.32x4.7
instead of
3.32x 4.1
Follow?
Ron
By Craig on Thursday, December 06, 2001 - 10:01 pm: Edit |
I'm a little scared of the 4.7's. Those things are F'n tiny! 4.1 was the max at the diffs I felt comfortable with in terms of strength. My ideal setup? 1.4:1 highrange d110 box/ 30% red GBR low range gears and 4.10's in the diffs.
I hate Math, and I suck at it-

Reading this thread, I think I'm a little off-topic, but does anyone have any knowledge of the RR Classic alarm ('92 MY)? My Rangie is ex-MoD (was used as surveillance/tactical support vehicle by the SAS) and although the c/locking works fine on the remote, the alarm seems to have been disabled - no LED, no flashing indicators, no trouble if I unlock by the key after remote locking. Official LR manual is no help. I need to know where to start testing to find the fault. A visual check says everything is OK - fuses, connections to alarm ECU etc. I'm stuck. Any help gratefully received, either to the board or by e-mail.
Many thanks
Rich
