When driving my 98 D1 over 45mph I get nasty sounding noise when I let up on the gas pedal. It sounds like it is coming from the transfer case.. Anybody else get this and know what it is and how to fix it? Seems to do it 4 out of 5 times that I let up on the gas. Also does it some times when I put my foot on the gas at those speeds as well but not as often as when I take my foot off. Anybody know?

GARRRUNNNNKKKK!!!!!! GRRRRLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

Is that it? If so, you've got da vibes. How high are you lifted?

You also just may need a new u-joint. Tell us more about your truck (miles, lift, stock/custom shafts, etc.)

Would do it when I was stock. Now that I have the RTE 3 inch (225 front/285-325 rear springs), RTE radius arms, RTE trailing links (using the two thickest bushings at the moment), front and rear GBR double cardon drive shafts it does it more offten. Had really bad vibes until I put the rear shaft on yesterday. Then still had vibes but not as bad. Took the third spacer off the rear trailing links today so now I have on two of them. Now I can't even really notice any vibes except for a faint trace at about 30-35mph and I'm not even sure about that they are so faint. Disco is a 98 with 37K on it and the drive shafts are new and on correctly (I double checked that since I had the front on wrong the first time).. Going to pull the rear links off again tomorrow and try using the big spacer and the little spacer to see what that does. Just wondering what the Garrrunnnnkkkk!!! sound is.. No Grrrrllllllling though.

Ya, I'm going to keep playing with the bushings just to see what happens with the different combinations of them. All three gave vibes, can't really tell if I have vibes now or not with the two biggest bushings on. Will try the biggest and the smallest tomorrow just to see what happens. Can't tell which end the noise is coming from though either so I don't know whether it is the front or the rear.

I having similar experience with 95 Disco with 75K There has been no modification to the truck and when I put my foot on the gas, I can hear some "trembling" sound coming from diff lock lever which is right above auto transmission gear lever. I drained T-box and differential fluids yesterday with Moroso brand climbing oil. I noticed front diff fluid color was like silver with many fine metalic debris. Transfer case fluid color looked OK when it was drained. Those fluids were changed only 8K miles ago.
Do I need to worry about my front differential and does it related to the "trembling" sound from diff lock lever?
I deeply appreciate any advice from you.

Happy holidays,
Jinwoo

Sorry Jinwoo but, I don't know the answer to your question.. However, after playing with all the bushings on the rear trailing links I have gotten the grrrruuuuuunnnnnnkkkkkk noise to stop and I'm pretty sure that there are no longer vibes coming from the rear. I think they are coming from the front which I can't do anything about as far as adjustments. I think that I just need a winch and bumper to weight the nose down and get the pinion and shaft in line. I found that the closer I get the pinion angle to match the shaft angle to form a straight line I get no vibes. So right now I'm running the smallest spacer on the rear links. Going to drive around for a few days and see how that feels.. I only get a slight vibe from about 50-55 and I feel it in the steering wheel instead of my seat so I think that it is the front.

Eric,

Aren't the RTE's radius arms suppose to align your pinion and the front ds in a straight line?

Don't know if they are supposed to do that or not Ali. However, given the angle that it is at it looks like it just needs some weight up front to lower the front end a bit. I think that the front arms are designed to get your steering back to normal.

with my 4" front and 5.5" rear lift i have that as well, but not too noticeable...do not go over 90 km/h...simple!
plus, future 35" TSL bias plys will help in the music!
