HI
I have a disco series 1,95 petrol 3.9litre.
On my way home last night, she overheated to red line. I stop, and water was flowing out from the
water filler cap( not the one on the radiator).
Anyway, I refill with water and drive home.
( temp was ok, home was 10 minutes away)
I took out the thermostat ,and notice that I can hardly move the centre peice. It wont even move 1mm,I can bearly move it at all and cant see any gaps for water to pass through by pushing with my fingers and using a screw driver.
I have temperary reinstall the hoses, and refill with water ,she burb ok,and no notice of smoke from the exhaust. No oil or continous of bubbles in the radiator filler hole.
I am wondering what does symptons of
1) A crack head.?
2) a broken head gasket.?
I am no mechanic, but it seem to have power
and no strange smoke in the exhaust at this moment. I am afraid to drive for a long distance
before working things out.
was my thermostat bad. ?
thanks in advance

If I were you, the first thing I'd do is replace the thermostat -- that's how I solved the overheating problem on my '95. It's a cheap fix -- only a $10 part. In fact, I'd change out the thermostat every year or so -- it's cheap insurance against a melt down. Other than that, take it to your trusted mechanic and check for blockage in the cooling system.

Mine was a blocked radiator. Replaced at the dealer for only $900.00 !
