I think I have replaced my brakes every 10K.. my
caliper is now leaking and probably wasted and
they cost some 350$ each?? I would love to have my rotors turned new pads and new calipers up front but honestly don't have and can't spend that kind of money. Does anybody have any leads on calipers in good condition?? and the whole anti lock break system is a real anoyance to me. Then when I do get new brakes is bleading the system like any other system or is there anything tricky I need to do?? Thanks for any help on my questions.. You guys always come through for me.. last week it was my rear diff this week it's my brakes.. I had a great time wheeling this weekend though.. Clear Creek outside of hollister Ca. I have seen another silver rover out there too with dirtbikes too.. wondering who it is??

Rebuild your caliper the kit is $15 more ~50 if you need new pistons.

Bleed you should use a pressure bleeder but I managed ok just usuing the regular method.

Joey,
Are you leaking brake fluid, Loss of pedal pressure no real stopping power?
Or are you slinging axel lube onto the pads, Is the inner wheel really wet and greasy?
If your wheels are slinging lube this will trash your brakes quickly. Replace inner and outer seals repack bearings also. Also degrease all the area toughly this will prevent further contamination of the pads. once wet with oil all you can do is trash them. After new seals I switched to the heavier front lube and no more wet inner wheels.

I am looking into the vented rotor and Kevlar set now avail for the discos. More stopping power and longer life. Ok all the Na sayers will responde to that. I have 6 cars all run Kevlar not a problem with any except cleaner rims and safer stopping.

where did you get your rebuild kit?? land rover had them priced at almost 100$ ????
and how many miles are you guys out there getting on your pads?? I do drive hard but I keep things clean and maintained for the most part. My pads are worn all crooked like my caliper is not working right obviously and it's always a mess..
what is my best move?? Thanks again

no axel lube anywhere.. the breaks stop me okay..I mean I have felt better brakes but I know the disco is heavy and has never really impressed me with it's brakes. the brake fluid is leaking from the caliper and smokes when it hits the area there.. only had to top the fluid level off once in the past three months though so it's not real bad.. Thanks again for your helps..

BP has (had?) the new seal kits for $15

Pistons I would get from zeus.

The complete kit is just pistons and seals.

IMO, don't go kevlar....

Vented rotors are okay... you're not talking about a race-car, tho', so IMO it's not needed...

IMHO, YMMV.....

Leslie,
For my needs Kevlar makes sense, Add the full weight of a Disco SD, Plus wife 2 kids a great Dane, Roof rack full of gear, plus a tent trailer and Bikes then descend Tioga pass at speed limit. This is where its nice not to smell hot brakes or the feel of fade. Besides IMO Land rovers could never be considered "Race Cars" Also there are more uses for our Disco than Rock Crawling.

Joey, So far the most reasonable for Disco parts has been Nathan Crabtree BOATBUGGY@aol.com

I just replace a bunch of hoses and window seals his price was considerable lower than my wholesale account at my local LR dealer

Last year i bought an upgraded front vented kit for my 88 RR from Chris Crane @ http://www.rpiv8.com/homepage.htm He seemed to have good prices at the time
