I am installing OME MD springs on my Disco II, which gives about 1.5 in. of lift. Would 245/75/R16 BFGs be a good size for this kind of lift? Thanks for your help!!

They would be a great size, and I've got four BFG Trac-Edges (cross between ATs and MTs) in that size to sell you! Email me direct if interested. Less than 5,000 miles. Where are you?

nick

you can install 245-75-16 without a lift - if you do the ome set up you will look under-tired.

i'd do 265-75-16 or if you feel a little brave
255-85-16. or if you use 7 or6.5" wide wheels you could do my favorite 235-85

I don't know about Disco IIs, but a Disco I needs wheel spacers and trimming of rear quarter panel to fit 265/75s. I agree that the 245s look a little under-tired, at least with the HD lift. That's why I have 4 perfectly good ones in my basement! I switched over to 235/85s quickly. Maybe wheel wells are a bit larger on Disco IIs.

265's will fit on a stock DII...mine never rubbed, but I put OME hd springs all the way around soon after I got the new shoes...245's will look small...sometimes size matters...

I was thinking about putting 265-75-16 on my disco 1 I don't mind cutting a bit but what's this about wheel spacers? I've got OME HD springs and shocks and a set of 1.25" spacers in my garage, Are the spacers necessary?

The 265s are quite a bit wider than the stock 235s. You will need to adjust your bumpstops to prevent the tires from rubbing when you turn.

With spacers (and 265s on a D1) you trade one problem (better turning radius and wider stance) for another (more tire trimming and other clearance issues).

I'd say put the tires without the spacers. It will become self evident if you need the wheel spaces pretty quickly.

Thanks,
Mike B.

235-85s have no clearance problems, except some trimming on rear quarter panel (with 2" lift) and are a fairly narrow, so they don't require adjusting the bump stops as much. They might touch the bottom of the front bumper spoiler if you still have that. I was running that set-up for a while, and had no problems. I prefer that over the 265s, (they are very similar in height) because you don't lose as much turning radius, or have to buy wheel spacers. 235-85s work fine on stock alloys or steelies.

so with 235s and 16x7 wheels there should be no real issue with stuffing and clearence of the outer part of the wheel well (both top and bottom) ? what kind of adjustments are needed to the bump stop? actual placement? or just the height? I purchase rear 4 inch bumpstops ..i was going to flip the original bumpstop, tear off the rubber one, drill a new hole for the new bumpstops and just put back into place...will this suffice?

Steering bumpstops, not suspension bump stops. You adjust them out so that your tires don't rub your front arms. There is a good how to in the tech section of this site.
