I just developed a squeaky noise. When going about 10-15 MPH I hear the squeaky noise and it goes away (or I can not hear due to speed). With the squeaky noise, I also developed vibration on the steering. About 1 wk ago I got new springs and replaced my shock with OME. Any suggestions?

Front U joint. Check it before you drive it any more!! It can seriously screw up your junk if it comes loose!!

Kyle,
What do you do to check a U-Joint? Do you just crawl up there and see if it wiggles?
Not worried about one, just curious.

Daniel,
I think visual inspection and shaking it to make sure it does not wiggles..... see that's my point, I don't have any of these symptoms???

Check the joints anyway front and rear. It dont matter if it was replaced. They may not have greased it. Its best to remove the shafts to check the joints. Check them for freedom of movement and for play...

Could it be your rear rotoflex coupling?

Bounce the vehicle as hard as you can to see if you can recreate the sound standing still. It might take a couple of big guys to do it. If you can then it's probably a shock, spring, or bushing problem.

Also, try standing in a parking lot and have a friend drive by. Hopefully they can recreate the problem as they pass you. This will give you a better idea of the location of the squeak.

It could be that one of your shocks is not mounted properly or that a spring is slightly off. It could be that one of your shocks is broken (Yes, it happens).

Also, it it a metal squeak or a rubber squeak?

Of course, there is always the remove the front and rear driveshafts test. Just be sure to only remove one at a time!

Thanks,
Mike B.

I checked all of the above items I could not (visually) see any problems. I am getting a second opinion (free) from a local LR dealership. I should have an idea by end of business today.

Mike how's the family?

Well, here it is:
Broken front U-Join. My extended warranty refuses to pay for it because 2 1/2 suspension lift. This is the second time this has happened. Can someone tell me what can be done to prevent this from happening again (removal of 2 1/2 inch suspension is not an option).

I was told that there could be a solution..... Spacers on the transfer case. Has anyone done/hear this. Installing spacer to drop the transfer case and reduce the stress angle of the drive shaft. Any comments?

Jose , as I said earlier. It was probably due to lack of grease. They may have installed it wrong , not greased it... Many things... You shouldnt have problems that fast after getting new joints...

I would imagine that if the angle was bad enough to mess up the U-joint due to lift you would have vibes telling you that you were messing up your drive shaft wouldn't you? If you didn't have vibes then I'm going with Kyle's opinion on the lack of grease or other non-lift related issue.

Oh, and as far as the extended warranty goes.. I had one up until two weeks ago. I canceled them and asked for my money back since I'm still under factory warranty. However, they told me that they would cover a 3 inch lift and any thing that the dealer would cover under their warranty. But, a locker would void it. So I'm thinking that refund check might go towards a winch and bumper or my up coming honeymoon or some thing..

I did forget the extended warranty Ho.. I should be getting my money back (minus some fees) in about a month or so. As for being a free man.. Well it's a little to late for that.. She'd hunt me down and kill me (if I'm lucky) if I left now.. Of course I do have a passport and she doesn't so I could get at least a few days head start on her..
