I need to purchase a rebuilt auto tranny for my 95 Disco. I was wondering if anyone has done business or have any feedback on East Coast Rover CO? I am spending $2600.00 on a rebuilt unit and want to make sure that I am doing business with a very refutable comany on this type of purchase. Has anyone had a tranny shop rebuilt there tranny, I have been told it is better to replace the complete unit? Any feed-back would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeoffrey

i dont know about replacing the tranny vs repairing it.

to answer your first question i think ECR has a pretty solid reputation, i've never bought anything from them but i know some people that have had entire vehicles restored there. ECR is expensive, but apperently worth the extra price to alot of people.

When you buy a tranny from ECR you are buying a tranny from Ashcroft (www.autoconv.com) who supplies ECR.

Ashcroft will no longer sell direct to the US due to liability issues so ECR is there distributor and gets a healthy markup.

If I were you I would call around to US suppliers who go to the UK to buy parts and ask if for a fee they would pick one up direct from ashcroft.

This would be my choice and will probably save you $$$$.

There is also no reason any competitent tranny shop cannot rebuild your zf. As I understand it the kit is not too expensive so depending on what is wrong you might get off even cheaper.

If its out of the truck and he is taking it in for a bench job he will get off much much cheaper. Under a grand would be my guess.. Just make sure the trans shop knows what the hell they are doing.. Most Cottmanns are pretty decent and you get a nation wide service deal...

I purchased a complete tranny for my 95 disco from a wrecker in california from a disco with 24K on it for $800. That was 2 years ago and still looking good on that part.

If you dont want the ECR markup try http://www.rpiv8.com/ Chris gets his from Ashcroft and he will export them. Only down side is core charge. let him quote you. I did a engine and tranny. Excellent service and support.

Thank you all for your information. I contacted Chris about an Ashcroft. I have come to find out that ECR does not have any more Ashcroft trannys. Kyle, are Cottman's a chain type tranmission establishment? I live in Rhode Island and have never heard of them before. The shop that my truck is currently at is charging me for 10.6 hrs labor to remove and install a new tranny, is that reasonable? What about Rovers North, has anyone had any experience with them, they sell a rebuilt tranny that they rebuild themselves? Thanks again for any more information that anyone can provide.

Thanks for the lead on Ericskens in CT. Have you done business with them before? I have heard mixed reviews about Ashcroft transmissions, if I buy a rebuilt tranny what should be rebuilt for a good quality unit?

Thanks,
Jeoffrey
