My 96 Disco with about 54000 miles has a clicking sound coming from the passenger side exhaust. It has slowly gotten worse over the past few months. Any opinions on what the clicking could be caused from and what are the terms for Land Rover to replace an exhaust component under their 8 year exhaust warranty. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks

Matt

I believe their 8 year warranty (80k mile) only applies to the cat convertors.
Can you tell where specifically the clicking is coming from - Y-pipe, muffler, exhaust manifold...

If it is coming from the exhaust manifold you could have sticky valves or tappets. Throw a quart of Resilone in there if you are low on oil or put one in at the next oil change. You should notice a difference after about 100-150 miles. Solved the issue for now on my 95 disco with 126k miles (Thanks to a post by Nathan Crabtree). The carbon build up will eventually lead to a valve job. Also, let the tach know what it feels like to touch 3.5k+ rpms. It'll will help the carbon from building up on the valves, ports, etc. Don't baby the engine...'drive it like you stole it'.

You running synthetic in the engine? I would switch over. It shouldn't really affect the valves too much (unless you have bad valve seals) but it helps almost everything else. The extra cost of synthetic, I believe, is worthwhile preventive maintenance.

Does that bad boy have a extended warranty with LR (some Discos have extended warranties on the drivetrain till 54k miles).

manifold gasket is a possiblity as well. and they can crack as well. if that is the case welding CAN be an option. but also check to make sure they bolts are tight. i have had both a cracked manifold on my '94 welded and work perfectly and last year on my '96 the manifolds were loose at ones point and later had the collector gaskets replaced. that is where the manifold connects to the Y-pipe. could be any combination of those or just one.
best to just pop the hood and start trying to isolate the noise.
