Is there any way to adjust the "sensitivity" of ABS ('95). Mine seems to kick in at the mere mention of snow and it's driving me nuts.

LOL! Couldn't you have found a bigger picture?:)

I like ABS in that it allows you to steer through problems and don't want to disable it. Also that switch could pose a problem when hitting ice while cramming a chew in my face, yelling at the dog, and keeping the 1.5 year old from screaming.

I'm gathering that it's not adjustable based on the overwhelming response so far.....

I don't think it's adjustable. It never actually occured to me that these pumps could be made so. They probably could but I have not seen it. Since they're meant to sense when to kick in, there should be no adjustment needed but as we all know they could use some sensitivity adjustment.

Also, ABS won't help you stop on ice. It may actually take longer to stop. That's why I disconnected mine. You're right about the steering while braking, though, so if you want to preserve that, don't disconnect it.

I got on some ice one time. Standing on the brake pedal, ABS gurgling like it does, steering in the direction I wanted to go. Truck followed its momentum (approximately 5 mph of it) straight through a curve and nose first into a ditch :) ABS is useless on ice, especially trying to steer. Works pretty good most other times. On ice I've always had better luck with stab braking in non-ABS vehicles.

Have the switch - just haven't put it in yet. I'll report back next week after the install

Seriously - I can't stand the ABS off-road or on snow, so I plan to just put the switch inline with the power to the ABS pump (at least that's the plan so far). If it works as expected, I should have a built in ABS on/off light because the idiot light on the dash should illuminate when I turn the ABS power off

i there was some discussion on here about it last winter. there are two differnt fuses that need to be removed from what i can remember, one under the dash and one under the hood.

i want the switch also :)

All you have to do is to unplug the harness from the actuator (under the hood). JonW, you're right of course. I was talking more about snow and steering while braking. On ice nothing works. Or you have to be going slow enough so that when ABS kicks in your momentum does not take you straight through the corner. But then you would not need ABS, would you? :)

if you unplug it at the wheel is that going to throw an engine code? and will it go off once i reconnect it? i don't want som damn light on after i hook it back up.

I'm talking about the ABS module. You know the one with all the brake lines going to and from it - zinc-plated metal box on driver side fender under the hood. There's a mulit-plug going to it. Just unplug there. You get ABS light on the dash but no fuses to pull/loose. To make ABS work again, just plug the harness in again. Simple.
