As a future Disco owner lurking around the board, I was just wondering what your opinions were of this set up. I know ECR is expensive but the work seems to be quality. What is the parts availability like in the US for the 300Tdi?? If i took a disco with a 300Tdi to the dealer would they know what to do with it?
...trying to learn as much as I can!!
Thanks,
Chuck

I guess my question is if you guys had a similar sort of budget would you make the same mods?
1) 300Tdi?
2) SG stg II suspenion?
3) etc etc..
I guess this is kind of a loaded question because it really depends on where you wheel. I was just wondering what your opinions were on the set-up.

1 - 300Tdi I'd really like to get my hands on one of these, killer engine from what I understand, but have no experience with, nor have ever seen one other than in pics on the internet.
2 - Absolutly NOT!! I would go totally custom, and something high enough to fit 33's but more like 35 or 36s (In the works right now actually). SG Stage 2 is nothing more than OME 764s out back, and 761s (I think) with a spacer up front, and expensive 10" travel Fox Shox..
3 - No Safari Gard stuff, again I would go totally custom and bomb proof, bull bars, bumpers, sliders, skid plates the works. Ramsey RE12000 winches front and rear. Extreme duty drivetrain components all around. If I had that kinda money to spend, I'd want the best and toughest stuff I can get. Maybe some custom D60 axles?
This is all provided I had an ECR budget. Something I don't see happening anytime soon.

If I had the cash I would get the 300tdi. Every thing else would be RTE though. Not only does he make good products but, his customer service is great as well.

I wonder how difficult it would be to put a Powerstroke diesel in a Disco. I had one in a Ford pickup that I used to own and that engine is nails. It will idle all day in 100+ degree temps and pull your house off of the foundation if geared correctly. Not to mention with a dually I was getting 20+MPG on the highway.
Has anyone heard of someone putting a Powerstroke or a Cummins into one of these trucks?

Don't know about the powerstroke, but I have done some work on my friend's Cummins. It probably wouldn't fit and I don't think the disco frame is strong enough. But Cummins does make a smaller version of the same engine, a 4 cylinder that would probably work. I've heard of jeepers swapping them in TJ's specs are 150HP and 300LB TQ.

I agree with Al, the Cummins from the Dodge pickups is probably too long since it is a straight 6. The Powerstroke however is a V-8 design, and although I do not have measurements, it does not appear to be much bigger than a 350 Chevy small block. My concern is that once you pass the hurdle of making it fit in the engine compartment, the rest of the drivetrain will have to be massively upgraded to handle all of the extra power.
I do not have nearly enough money or experience to try this swap. I know that there are some people that visit this board who have enough money for East Coast Rover to build a truck. I seem to think that for $100,000 plus; there must be a specialist out there somewhere who could put one of these engines in a Rover.
My mechanic keeps trying to tell me to put a 350 in mine. He thinks that it will fit in there well. I am going to keep running the 3.9 until it dies. When it gives it's last gasp of air (which I hope is a long time from now) I will probably ask your opinions as to which route to take.

4 banger cummins is ok
Ike has one in his series.
Timm Cooper is the man on those.
Ike said he found them for 1200 running i think. You see them in bread trucks and such.
Neat conversion, but for a disco? I dunno
