I have a 1996 Disco that is suffering from cold starting problems/hot starting problems. I am told that replacing the temp sensor should solve my problems. My question is which sensor? Do I replace the Engine Temp Sensor (ECTS) P/N ETC 8496? or the Fuel Temperature Sensor P/N ETC 6661? Also, are these the correct Part Numbers for a 1996 4.0?

most likely the coolant temp sensor P/N etc8496. the 6661 is the sensor on the fuel rail. Yes, you have the right numbers for a 96. Who is doing the telling here, and will they narrow it down for you?
