i know that this is probably a tired subject (no pun intended!), but i,m a new disco owner & learning as i go. just received my arb winch bumper & hope to install this weekend with ramsey 9k winch. no lift as yet, but probably will put rear springs in front & ome on rear. can i do this without new shocks & not lose articulation?? will this be good combo for ride & handling?? also i have a chance to buy a set of 245/75 16's--i now have 235/75 16 michelin cross terrains that are like new-- but the 245's seem to be about 2" taller. is this a good tire size?? can i run the tires prior to installing lift?? any input is appreciated!!!!

Someone will surely chastise me if I am wrong, but...

Even if you do change your springs, the articulation will be limited by the length of the shock and whether or not you retain your sway bars. The stock shock does not offer a great amount of articulation, so if you are interested in gaining maximum articulation you will need to change shocks. If you're planning on changing springs, might I suggest you consider the RTE 2" lift springs - an excellent value for $275.

If you go the route of stock shocks, rear springs on front and OME rear springs, you will have a lifted vehicle but will only have stock articulation because of the limitations of the stock shocks.

Before I put a 2" RTE lift on my Disco1, I ran Yokohama Geolandar A/T 245/75R16 tires on it for RoverFest. The taller tire on the stock ride required trimming of the rear panels but did not have any complications otherwise - actually the only "problem" with the 245s was a small amount of rubbing at full turning because I did not adjust the steering bump stops to compensate.

The taller tires on the stock suspension offered a more aggressive look that worked decently on and off-road.
