My father has a 94 300 Tdi Discovery and is experiencing an intermittent problem selecting third gear. Sometimes it'll slide straight into gear, other times it won't go in at the first try.

Any ideas? Not sure if the oil has ever been changed, though the previous owner did say it had a new box, but not sure how long ago.

Is it worth chnaging the oil? And if so, what would you recommend?

I've used Redline MTL in other cars to great effect (particularly improvements in shift quality) but is it appropriate for the Disco?
