For the past few days, I have been experiencing a shuddering sound and vibration in my 1996 Discovery when under hard acceleration. (Vehicle seems fine when under normal driving.) Would this be caused by problems in transmission, transfer case, axles, or other components? I would very much appreciate some guidance on this issue. (I have a Haynes manual with me, but my LR workshop manual has been loaned out to another club member.) Thanks in advance for any help you may offer.

Do you have a rotoflex? Have you ever replaced it? How many miles on her? Any U-joint work in the past?

Yes, our vehicle does have the roto-flex joint and it has been replaced five times, the most recent was last year. (I suspect that some of those replacings were scam issues from the dealer.) Current roto-flex looks good. Also, transmission fluid level is in the correct range. Thanks for your response though. Any other positive comments or suggestions will be welcome.

Robert Mann,
I looked again and discovered some cracks in the roto-flex. Seems your hunch is correct. Unfortunately, I don't have time to work on it now. So, will take it to dealer tomorrow. Thanks for you response.

Check your front drive shaft ujoints while you are at it.
Thanks,
