Spent the afternoon with my Dad and brother standing around my garage watching me swap the rear RTE 2" HD's in. I replaced the OME extra HD (763) springs in the rear and OME HD (751) in the front. I did the fronts last weekend (rained) and finished up today. I posted picks to my gallary but forgot to add captions. So what you'll see are finished shots of the lift and the old OME's sitting on my work bench.

I run 235 85 MTs on 16" Disco steelies. I added a 10mm spring packer to all four springs (on top) and added an extra 5mm under the front passenger side to level her out.

I get 21" and 20 3/4" in the front and 21 1/2 and 21 3/8 in the rear (center hub to fender). The swap was relatively easy, I didn't remove the rear shocks and never touched the brake lines. I did use spring compressors on the old and new springs to make things a little easier.

Congratulations on a job well done. Did you add 2 5mm packers on the passengers side or just one?

Ryan,

Thanks, I added one (1) 5mm spring packer under the front passenger side spring. Each spring also has a 10mm on top, including the front passenger side. My old setup had a 10mm on top of each rear spring and a 10mm spacer UNDER each of the fronts with an additional 5mm spacer on top of the low passenger front spring.

I don't recommend the 10mm on the bottom of the front springs as they can, and did, allow the spring to shift on the perch under heavy articulation. They never came unseated, but they shifted on me at Tellico this summer. I suppose one could fashion a retaining bar, a la the rears, for the fronts though.

Ron,
do you know what the free length of those springs were? I'm collecting info for my list calc spreadsheet.
Also, are you stock weight other than the tires?
Thanks,
Clint

Frank,

Why replace OME for RTE? More lift, did away with rear sag, and better handling.

Clint, I promised the OME's to a friend. If he falls through, there all yours. The free length on the OME springs I removed are:

751 DF 15.25
751 PF 14.5
763 DR 15.25
763 DP 15

i just installed my arb--was an easy install & i like design, fit & appearance. not real happy with the winch mounting position or the position of the marker lamps. overall i think it's a very worthwhile upgrade!!

Frank B.

I like the ARB. I have the non-air bag one and don't have a winch yet. It sounds like the only winch that will fit it the right way is the Warn line. Anyway, it is heavy and willknock over sapling or two if necessary...

The ARB (non-air bag) knocks over deer pretty well too! :)

ARB vs. Deer good to know, my friend hit a deer with her 4runner with an ARB (i think) killed deer, 4runner ok. Also hit a lowrider, lowrider totaled, 4runner minor damage. We hail her for that one!

We hit this thread regarding the ARB bumpers awhile back. Great bumper but there are better out there for those who want to do more serious trail riding etc. If you look under the Window section of Discoweb, you'll see two ARB bumpers both airbag versions that were damaged recently at the RoverFest 2001 in Killington VT. My DII was the White Gold one. I took a small incline on the first gate of the trials course at a very slow speed and hit the drivers side of the bumper from underneath and bounced over and forward. You can see how the bumper rotated. The reason: the crush cans that are now used for the airbag version of the ARB. Good luck.
