Don't know but on my Jetta (Bora) I had to apply a thin layer of anti-squeal grease on the back of the pads, it stopped squealling. Actually found it in the box some time after I've changed the pads.. complete with instructions!

It "should" in most cases - at least the ones I've seen (my truck and a few others that I've put organics on or convinced others to switch to them).

They will not correct for a caliper problem such as a sticking piston....

BTW - 90% of the time, it's the rears that do the squealing

i wonder why, bill.

the rear pads on my rangie are killing me. squeal like a pig once they warm up. i've done away with the semi-metallics, i've had the anti-squeal stuff on the back of the pads, hell, i've even cleaned and almost polished the spring clips (thinking that the friction may not allow the pads to clear the rotors, eventually leading to the pads heating up). I've deglazed the rotors, broke the edges on the pads, whatnot... they still squeal...

oh yeah, i've checked - the pistons move okay in the bores, none seized.

I think squeaky brakes must be a factory option. For people that like to ride the brake. So if you hear the squeek you know you are not on the brakes. :)

I have been having them squeek while I'm NOT pressing them. I checked and the wheels spin freely, I don't think I have a bad caliper-I pulled and replaced the pads. Is this possibly just the pad slightly rubbing after I let off the brakes. It sometimes will go away after I stop and start again or hit a bump. Wierd

can't hear the squeal over my roof rack noise.

Carl,
I like that fix. But I have to wait until I no longer work at my current place of employment.
Short garage...

Something else about the brake squeel I mentioned above. This is a new squeel, and higher pitch than when I am actually stopping. It happens as I take off from a stop until about 5-10 mph.
Not every time...could this be something other than the brakes. I wasn't too bothered by them squeeking when I stopped, it isn't that loud.
This new noise is not that loud either, but it shouldn't happen when I'm not pressing the brake pedal.

Daniel, easy to check. step on brake pedal lightly while accelerating. if the sound changes, it's the brakes. if it doesn't, it's something else.

AAAhhh, why didn't I think of that? Thanks.

Now for the thousand (or maybe two thousand) dollar question:

If it is not the brakes, what should I check this weekend?
