have a '96 Disco and my ABS light comes on and goes outbut usually stays on- also notice under normal braking the ABSsystem seems to go on and pulses the pedal and seems to pull the pedal down and it feels like the car "skips" and you lose your brake pressure - no help from dealers won't talk to me- any info on troubleshooting will be appreciated.

You have a loose or bad ABS sensor. Try to clean and reseat each one.

Axel,
I had a similar type of problem, which was temporarily fixed by just pushing the sensors down into their seats. It's back, and I'd like to ask if there is a preferred way to get the sensors out. I did pull on them a little bit
when I fooled around with them last time, but I didn't want to break anything. Is there a tool for this, or do I just pull them straight up and out???
Thanks,

I have this exact same problem. I have ordered an ABS sensor from Nathan and will see if I can figure out which side is bad. Per Nathan the two front sensors are the same except for the length of the wire, so I ordered the longer one and will try on each side. I have pulled them both out, cleaned and reseated them to no avail. I will post with results.

I have also had this problem, May i add that taking your disco to the dealer for 40 bucks is ok to tell you which sensor has gone bad. The fronts seem to go bad first due to the fact that they must twist each time you steer. The dealer will also reset your computer for free after you install your new sensor but you may have to remind them of this! the cumputer can only hold so much info so your most recent problem may not show unless you have it cleared...

When cleaning and reseating the sensors, is it necessary to replace the bushing ?

If the bad sensor is in the rear you need to change both sensors since they come as a set together with the cable. After having the dealer checking my Disco with the testbook i know I have to do this. 320£ + VAT from England... The testbook said the right rear sensor was bad. Anyone knows if it is really not possible to change only one sensor in the rear?
TIA
Peter
