I know expeditionexchange.com has a step by step process and I have looked at it but .... it states that the piston retraction is most difficult. Any tricks to this?

I ordered new pads from Atlantic British. Not genuine pads but representative said of all the ones he sold those were the best. STC3684F and STC3685F - Front and Rear. Don't know if they come with new bolts. Do I abosolutely need those? Any other advice would be appreiciated - First timer here on the brake replacement. Thanks

Unscrew the cap and lever them back with a screw driver.

Doubt its any differnt than a DI. I am changin pads on a DII soon, probably this weekend so I will let you know if it is different.

Ron

I'm in your same shoes, have the same questions. I'm planning on getting the Lockheed or Mintex pads from Boatbuggy for our 2000 DII. Front and rear for $80 + shipping. Seems AB wants much more.

DI brake job looks slightly different from DII. For anyone who's done a DII brake job:

Do the bolts absolutely require replacement? I'd have to buy them separate.

Is it necessary to apply loctite to the bolts prior to reinstalling?

If the replacement pads don't come with the anti-squeal backing which the OEM pads do, is it recommended to get a bottle from say Pep Boys and apply it? Any brand name?

Do you suggest coating the sliding surface of the pistons with fresh brake fluid (a step per Workshop Manual for say a RRC)?

Sorry if questions sound nutty, not very mechanically inclined.

the easiest is using a "c" clamp to press the pistons down. The front calipers have two pistons so you need to have a bar or similar across both pistons when you clamp down othewise they will pogo...one goes down...other pops up...
