How can you tell if a steering stabilizer is beginning to wearout. I have never owned a vehicle with a stabilizer until this Disco.

Steering wheel vibrates or yanks side to side while you're driving. Usually a bump of irregularity in the road will get the shaking started. However, same symptoms can result from unbalanced tires, loose steering components, worn bushings, etc. How old is your stabilizer? May be time to replace it. Fix it before you lose control and go off the road (which can and does happen from bad stabilizers - ask me how I know).

Easiest way to tell is take it off and move it by hand and see if it is shot. It should be smooth throughout and the same valving throughout
I did not think driving without the stabilizer was that bad, and I was towing. But my balls are tight, maybe BG has loose balls

What kind mileage can I expect out of the stock shocks.

ask kyle....didn't or doesn't he still have stock woodheads on his truck??!! depends on how and where it was driven. some folks seem to really dig the stock woodheads. i replaced mine after 55K on the truck. only had it since 42K. just the overall ride qualitly will start to suck.

Way back when, I had the spastic steering wheel syndrome and took it to the dealer for correction. $400+ later, I had a new track rod and re-torqued steering component bolts. On the way back to the office from the dealer (about 2 miles from the dealer on the highway entrance ramp), the same shudder happened, but much worse. I couldn't steer & follow the curve of the ramp and I did a little impromptu off-roading over a bird of paradise bush and onto the gravel landscaping. I limped home, drove the wife's car to the local 4X4 parts supplier, grabbed an OME stabilizer, slapped it on in 20 minutes, problem solved. That was my last dealer experience, thank you very much.
P.S. Ron, if you follow the saga, you can see my balls were tight, too, although I normally prefer boxers...
