we have 2 '96 disco's with about 70,000 on their clocks and they both have a real bad, but intermittent hesitation when you first start to accellerate normally, and it doesn't seem to matter if engine is hot or cold, no engine lights or faults come up on OBD2, both had recent 60k services, complete tuneups and still have this intermittent problem, someone suggested a wire harness maybe it, but on both cars seems to be to hard to believe - need help!!!

Had a similar problem with my 97 disco, and it turned out to be the vacuum advance diaphragm. Had it replaced and away she went like a new one.

CHECK THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR - DIRTY (CARBON DUST) INSIDE WILL DO THIS - IF NOT ABLE TO OPEN IT, WILL HAVE TO TRY SWAPPING WITH A KNOWN GOOD ONE?

Had same thing on a 97' with 65k. No lights or faults or backfire. It was the speed sensor, that should only kick in around 120mph. I understand it's a common problem. It was like you took your foot off the gas, nice and smooth, then it would just kick in again. It happened at all speeds and RPMs. Hope this helps.

Speed sensor seems to be an easy switch to test. i just sent the instructions to someone else if you want to post email address.

I had the exact same problem. Cold or warm, it would hesitate when I stepped on the accelerator. I replaced the fuel filter which had about 40-50K miles on it. It cost $38 at Encino LR dealer, maybe much less at other places. The problem disappeared thereafter.

Good luck,

Javier
