Starting my Disco this morning, the RPM's shot up to almost 3, and did not idle normally till the engine warmed up. What may be the cause? The other times I drove it today, it idled fine.

Thanks!

Well, it's garaged all the time, which makes me assume it's not a climate issue.

I've experienced similar problems, check your throttle body linkage for proper operation, also you may want to remove your intake tube from your throttle body and take a look inside. Gummy deposits can develop, use a mild carb cleaner to remove deposits. Are you running a K&N? Check your MAF sensor if you are. Sometimes the filament can get oily and create problems. Clean with "Q" tip lightly moistened w/rubbing alcahol.

This happened to me this summer. Here's what caused it...

Installing something on the truck, turned ignition on to roll down windows. Finished installing whatever it was I was working on and went inside to cool off a bit. Couple hours later, go outside and noticed the key was still "on." I turned it off, then wondering what I had done I turned the engine over. It sprang to life and idled around 3000 for a minute or so until I shut it off. I wated about an hour and it cranked and ran normally.

I left the ignition on too long without cranking, causing the fuel pump to pressurize the system before automatically shutting down. Too much fuel.

Did you do something like this, perhaps?

Hmmm, possibly? We always leave the key in the ignition, and my wife happened to drive the Rover prior to me...sooooo maybe. This morning it started up just fine. ??
Thanks for the info, and I'll look into some of the above comments.
Later.
