Is this a LR part, or is someone else making them? I'd like to get some photos and details if possible. Also the hydraulic pumps if they are supplied elsewhere.
Thanks
Dean

GOD, don't even mention the letters PTO, I saw my boss get his arm ripped completely off by the PTO of a tractor two summers ago, not a pretty sight.

Gotcha. Thanks. And sorry to hear about that Patrick.

The Disco one is not like a tractor PTO. It is self contained not belt driven

So how does that work then?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The PTO / pump system mounts on the rear of the t-case, so all of the movement is internal. The pump is connected to the winch by hydraulic lines.

What advantage does the PTO setup have over a dedicated pump? I think you can set a Saginaw pump up for about $100. How much would the PTO cost to get shipped to the states?

The PTO will have more output(volume) than the Saginaw so it will be faster. Since the PTO is driven by the t-case, you can change gears in the car, and fine-tune the speed of the winch.
With the dedicated pump, you'd probably have to put it in place of the a/c compressor.

hehehe, Marc the PTO is very different apples than a "saginaw" pump. PTO will cost you a fortune, but will drive anything up to 3000PSI and about 15 Gallons of flow per minute GPM. It's industrial strengh shit. For example if you want to run a milemarker winch 1500PSI will do, but a ramsey hydraulic likes to have 2500psi.
If your not willing to spend a grand or more don't even look at them.

Michel,
Which pump did you get - there is a selection of them with different capacities. And did you get yours from Maxidrive in Oz? I emailed them last week and the guy who knows all is away for 2 weeks
What about service / helpful attitude? Are they good to deal with?

Yeah, I assumed GBR got the from Maxidrive
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Yeah , he gets them from there but Bill knows whats up and you can talk to him now.
Kyle
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I know Kyle. But I have plenty of time to do a little research (you know, while I wait for my bumper)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Dean, I called Mal at maxidrive and spoke with him for some time about it, and he directed me to Bill at GBR for purchasing.
I got the 40 series pump and it "JUST" fits in the disco. You could go one smaller since that pump will go up to 15GPM wich is a bit high, since I can only use 8GPM with the milemarker special valve. But it does give more ommph at lower engine speed.

Michel - where did you get the pump, how much was it, where did it fit in the engine compartment, and how did you hook up the belt?
Just curious because I am looking at the milemarker also, and am trying to decide if I should go with a dedicated pump.

Ahhhh, marc can you do a search on PTO in the archive as I described the whole thing in that tread.
Quickly though, the pump I'm talking about is part of the PTO system discused above, so it sits on the transfer case not in the engine. I believe you are thinking about a second pump mounted in the engine bay, as far as I know it cant be done by mortals, but not imposible. At first I had a shop make me a power steering pump with the right specs for the milemarker, but the mounting proved to be beyound my capacity and the local redneck shops, so I gave it up.

What was your cost on the pto? Are you in the US?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
From Australia (presumably units are AUST$
As of yesterday
P.T.O unit 552.00
40 PH 12 cross pump 432.00
Air Freight 115.00
Exch rate is 1$US = 1.944$AUST, so divide them by 1.944

Damn that buck of yours goes a long way.
Don't forget the pressure/flow control valve, extra tank, fittings and hoses. They add up to.

I was thinking of a MM, but after my engine took a sip of the Pine Barren best brew, i think all but sold on an regular electric. But then, i am adding a snorkel.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Clarence - you had a hard time in the mud, but you'll be fine with the snorkel. And who says the winch will work under that whale shit anyway?
Does anyone know if there would be any import tax on those articles from Australia? If so, how much approx?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
1.5%-3%
There are lots of good importers who will handle it if Maxidrive will sell to you BUT you will probabably have to buy through GBR so why bother with the hastle.
Fedex I think handles their owner brokerage so that could be a route too if you know someone with good Fed ex rates
