Hey guys,
Does anyone know if there is an internal air filter for the heat/AC ventilation system in a '99 DII?

Lately, whenever my disco has the air on I get a musty smell for the first couple of minutes which I am guessing is mold or condensate turning to mold in the vent system. Wondered if there was an internal filter or tray I could clean or replace to get rid of this?

TIA,
Greg D

BTW - This is my 1st post to this board. I have been lurking for some time and would like to thank the board regulars for great info. (I am seriously considering a "cheap bastard lift" as an x-mas present to myself!!)

Check to see if water drips down the tunnel onto your floor. if it does, you might just have a nipple blockage and its easy to fix. Also your drier might be going. I hope its your nipples. just pinch them, they are under the truck, up in the transmission tunnel bulge, two little black rubber things, and you can just flick them. water will come out if its blocked when you relieve them of the grit they were holding.

Cartner-
"Also your drier might be going"

What?

How would a bad dryer cause odor from the evaporator???

Thanks for the tips guys.

Sounds like I'll have fun playing with my "nipples" whether it is the cause of my problem or not!

If the drier isn't dryin, then the wet must be wettin, hence the WET smell. The wet must be goin somewhere, so that might be the cause of MILDEW, a condition resulting from WEtness, which would be caused by the drier not dryin...

Sorry Cartner the dryer is container for storing liquid refrigerant from the condenser. This component also contains a bag of desiccant that absorbs small amounts of moisture from the refrigerant. It does not dry out the evap case!

Put ice in to a glass of water and watch it sweat, same thing happens on the evap coil. Ever notice that the A/C runs when you have the defroster on? They run the defroster air over the evaporator coil to remove the moisture and help clear the fog off the wind screen.
