My driver window goes up slowly and sometimes stops. If I put it down and try again and help it by pulling, it goes up. My dealer suggests a new motor but it costs $292.62. (this is for a 96 Discovery with 85K miles). Any suggestions? I did check out the FAQ with the guide to pull the circuit board but don't want to start pulling circuit boards if anyone has any suggestions.

Its most likely the regulator, There is a POS plastic wheel that cracks and or fails causing binding of the scissor action of the regulator thus twisting it out of shape. Some people bend them back but IMO if suspect replace it. The only real way to check is first read the switch if good power then you will have to remove the motor unbolt it from the regulator and cycle it back and forth, I always like to have a regulator on hand in the 20 or so I have done never have I found a motor at fault...

Also the motors most of the time can be repaired by an alternator rebuild shop, at least in my area..

I have had to replace 3 of my 4 in my 97 disco I found them for 75 from Nathan. I have some motors off a 88 Range rover I don't know if any will fit. 20.00 plus shipping.
