1997 Disco 1 with 62,xxx miles. My trail truck and highway cruiser. Replaced front drive shaft a couple months ago. Slop is in front of transfer case going to the front drive shaft. I can turn the front drive shaft about 1/4 turn or less with my hand with the selector in P and the handbrake off. Coasting down the street I can hear a "clunk" if I blip the throttle (slack in front of the drivetrain?).
I'm still under warranty.
I have offroaded pretty hard before the dealer offered to replace the front driveshaft under warranty and went to the MAR just after they installed it. I notice no vibes or other symptoms other than the "clunk" that I can make happen with the throttle. Oh, and I get a pretty strong "clunk" sound when the tranny is at operating temp and I shift from D to R. Anyone?

Put your foot on the brakes when shifting from D to R. Also grab the rear of the back propshaft as it enters the diff and try to detect slop in the pinion bearing...mine was loose and only neede retorqueing...made quite a difference. The clunk will never go away totally...it really is a LR thing.
