is it normal for the power steering pump to leak a little? I have a 98 disco 1 and the power steering pump is leaking a some, not enough for any to drip to the ground though. Is this normal, if not how do i fix it?

Rovers leak? Never! Tee Hee Hee.

Yes, some of the power steering boxes and/or pumps leak. Some folks will say that it is only a matter of time.

First thing to do is to thoroughly degrease the surrounding area. Don't forget to go in through the wheel well as sometimes, they throw some fluid around in that direction. This should make it easier to determine just where your leak is.

The most common cause seems to be the worthless hose clamps at the reservoir and the reservoir itself. If you're certain it's coming from the pump you might not need to replace these clamps, but it's good insurance.

As for the pump, some will say to use ATF with stop leak. Some will say to use brake fluid as it supposedly swells the seals. Me, I carry a bottle of ATF with me everywhere I go! Someday, I'll mount a GM pump and be done with it.

There are sources for rebuilt pumps-however, I don't have them immediately available.

88, Its about time for hoses and belts, All are $ and the fun ones to change are the tranny.
Give Nathan a call
I recomment changing them The PS hoses will eventualy fail and the fluid will migrate down to your brake pads. So now your looking at new pads and hoses.
