I've read through all of the past threads about the "cheap bastard" lift and still unsure what the best option for me is.
I bought my truck about 4 months ago and the prev. owner already installed and ARB, 8K warn and Bilsteins. Springs are stock, so the front is about a inch lower than it should be. I'd like to go with OME MD's in the rear and swap the rears forwars, but I'm concerned that since I have a rotoflex DS, that I'll have the vibes at both ends. Would I be better off just putting some spacers in the front to correct for the winch/bumper? I'm cool with spending a couple hundred for springs, I just don't want to have to drop $600 more for d. shafts. Also, there are new 235/70 BFG AT's on there - do they look puny after the CB lift?
Help!
PS Loved the Discoweb Moab video!

Scott, look in the for sale section of this site. I believe that Robbie was selling a set of rear OME MD springs that would be perfect for the "cheap bastard" lift. As for the vibes you just don't know till you do it. Most people that have lifted using OME have not had vibes. The tires will look a little smaller.. I'm running about 4 inches of lift and I have 225/75 tires on it right now. They look really small like a Ford 350 pickup truck.. Lots of wheel well.

Willing to spend a couple of hundred bucks? Why not spend $275 and get yourself a great set of springs from RoverTym?
I put 2" lift springs on my 95 D1 and have had no problems with the rotoflex driveshaft.

What are the advantages of the RTE springs over the OME CB list?

Ok,
Here are your choices:
OME HD (or MD) rear CB front
RTE (RoverTym Engineering) 2in rear CB front
Full RTE 2in
Full OME (higly recommend HD front, not MD front)
To be honest the only difference between the first two and the second two is the cost. I doubt you would be able to tell the difference. The only thing that would be able to tell is if you elected the 189# RTE fronts but I don't think you would want to.
Ron
Personally I would go with RTE MD 2in rears and the CB fronts. Your tires will not look bad. We have been running stock size on road with OMe Hds all around and it looks a little small but not bad at all, now 4in . . . they look small

I think RTEs ride a bit better, you also get some different rate options, also they are not handed like the OME. With the 2in set up I don't think you will have any DS problems. 90%+ of people at that level do not.

Did some one say 4 inch lift with little (225/75) tires. It looks like this.
And people wonder why I'm asking so many tire questions.

I think you might want to go w/ RTE's on this one. I did the cheap bastard lift (W/ OME HD's in rear) and I love it but my front is a little lower than the rear. If I had an ARB up there w/ a winch it would sit probably 2 in. lower than rear. I think RTE's would compensate for the weight of the ARB, and if not I've heard John is very reputable for fixing problems. Give him a call and talk it over w/ him.

Rob,
Driver side front = 22 1/8
Driver side rear = 22 7/8
Passenger side front = 22 9/16
Passenger side rear = 22 3/8
Not sure what I had when I started but, I got 3 inch HD springs with 1 inch spacers.
She hasn't noticed the change from the 2 inch lift to the 4 inch lift and I'm not telling. She already had a hard enough time getting in the truck when it was stock cause she is short. As for the other side of that, I know I'm not going to be in any porn movies.. Hung like a rabid hamster..

I think the little tires are kinda cool but an inch or 2 bigger would hurt I dont guess
