I have a 98 Disco, that does NOT have the factory wiring harness for trailer lights. I want to know if I installed the 4 prong \ U-haul harness are there any major snafu's to watch for? I plan to just splice into the left and right blinkers and the tail lights!! Help, I need to have this done yesterday!!!

Shank--

It is my understanding that all Disco's are pre wired for trailers. My 95 was behind the rear lamp access panel on the passenger side. A grommet can be popped out at the bottom which will allow you to feed it through the floorpan. I took out the grommet, carefully cut a hole in it slightly smaller than the diameter of my trailer wiring and then a slit to the edge. Once I ran my wire, I put the grommet back in and sealed it with silicone. I purchased the plug in connector from AB. I went the AB route because I have enough electrical gremlins. I did not want to spur them on! Good luck.

I used the factory harness on my Disco, it's really easy. It cost quite a bit, but no matter what you do, you still need to buy the adapter to combine the brakes and turn signals.

So the brakes and turn signals are on different circuits in the Disco??

Yes, The brakes and turn signals are totally separate bulbs. Notice on the back of any 'merican truck, when the brakes are on, and a turn signal, the brake light flashes, on the back of your disco, you have red brake lights and separate amber turn signals. Now, look at the back of your trailer, notice they only have one light on each side. Therefore, you need a circuit to combine the turn signal and brakes together to get the trailer lights to work properly.

The factory adapter is very easy to install...

It should install itself for $190.00 !!
That was my quote at Houston Land Rover !!

Shank,

190$ did that include the tow kit or just PL on getting lights. Also was this for a ? how many prong jack.

If you tow allot and your trailer as elec brakes get a brake controller this will help on those sudden stops and 6%+ grades. Not that rover brake are challenged.

That was the P&L on just the lights!! I told him I needed a 4 prong flat, like U-Haul installs! And that was the price quote!
I am installing an aftermarket from PEP BOYS tonight and will be on the road in the morning!
I'll let y'all know how it goes!!

$17.00 U-Haul kit works fine...see the tech section on installation by spicing into the stock trailer wiring....easy.
