My wife was stranded the other day when our 97 Disco broke down. It wouldn't start. It wouldn't turn over just a click and the sound of the fuel pump.

After some troubleshooting, I found out that the problem must be somewhere in the starter cicuit-since I can start the car just fine if I turn the key to "on" and run a jumper wire between the smaller lead on the starter and the battery.

I used a multimeter and found out that there is no voltage going to the starter from the switch wire when I turn the key to "start"

Anybody have any clue to what the poblem might be here? I know that there is a lot of crap that is on this circuit like starter switch/relay, Park/Neutral switch, alarm. I already cleaned and wirebrushed the grounds.

I just don't know where to start finding out where this stuff is and figuring out what is wrong.

I ordered a Haynes manual - hopefully it has some wiring diagrams and part numbers in it.

If anybody has any ideas please let me know. To start it, I have the open the hood and stick a jumper wire on the battery. A pain to say the least.

I had the same trouble with my Chevy truck last month, sounds almost identical. You could hear the fuel pump charge up but it wouldn't turn over the starter. It wound up being the ignition switch module, which contained about 40-50 wires, that go from the ignition to the firewall. I replaced it and have not had any more trouble. I havn't had that problem in the Disco though, but it may help!

The battery connections are fine - its gotta be something in that starter switch circuit - if I bypass that circuit it starts fine. Rob from NC sent me a wiring diagram si I'll end up going through that whole circuit. Thanks again Rob.

Good luck I am still trying to get a factory book for my 97 Disco, I did like the old RR owners manual it had a full wire diagrams, it saved me several times. To bad the 97 Disco did not do the same?
