My wife was stranded the other day when our 97 Disco broke down. It wouldn't start. It wouldn't turn over just a click and the sound of the fuel pump.
After some troubleshooting, I found out that the problem must be somewhere in the starter cicuit-since I can start the car just fine if I turn the key to "on" and run a jumper wire between the smaller lead on the starter and the battery.
I used a multimeter and found out that there is no voltage going to the starter from the switch wire when I turn the key to "start"
Anybody have any clue to what the poblem might be here? I know that there is a lot of crap that is on this circuit like starter switch/relay, Park/Neutral switch, alarm. I already cleaned and wirebrushed the grounds.
I just don't know where to start finding out where this stuff is and figuring out what is wrong.
I ordered a Haynes manual - hopefully it has some wiring diagrams and part numbers in it.
If anybody has any ideas please let me know. To start it, I have the open the hood and stick a jumper wire on the battery. A pain to say the least.

You say you have to stick a jumper on the bat. not jump start? I had an elctrical problem on my 95 around 90K. Battery kept draining for no reason. The dealer thought a relay might be sticking, but no go. They said they talked with Rover and nobody had ever reported a problem like mine before. They checked and cleaned all the grounds, problem solved. It's funny that LRNA says there have been no problems like that, I did a search on web and found a site that said cleaning 6 ground points was a common fix for my particular problem.

The battery connections are fine - its gotta be something in that starter switch circuit - if I bypass that circuit it starts fine. Rob from NC sent me a wiring diagram si I'll end up going through that whole circuit. Thanks again Rob.
