I'm planning on replacing the brake rotors on my 2000 disco2 this weekend, or next. I'm looking at places to get genuine rover rotors and pads, but is there anyone who likes other brands better?

Also, just for a sanity check: Is it really as easy to replace disco2 rotors as the shop manual leads me to belive? Remove tire, remove caliper, and take out one screw holding on the rotor? Almost too good to be true!

I hope so - just replaced my brake pads for the first time this weekend and did it under three hours (had to go buy some tools). I am wondering about the rotors. You have a 2000 eh? How many miles before you have to replace rotors? - assuming average stop and go traffic - I live in Atlanta so I know it will be less for me but I just want an idea.

My braking started to get a slow vibration at about 26k miles. It got progressively worse, I'm at 28k now, and it's time to get them done.

I ordered a 'full brake kit' from Atlantic British for $349 plus shipping. Four rotors, and four pad sets. Much more reasonable than the $500 per axle my dealer quoted.

I've done my own pads once before, without help, but for this one, I'm bringing in a tool-happy friend. Looks simple enough though.

I don't know if the replacement at 28k miles is normal, I do a LOT of city driving unfortunately, living in Southern California. I saw a post from a D1 owner who had to replace at 26k miles, but that's the only one I've seen.

Are the D1 rotors a different thickness or do they have a different breaking system than a D1?

I'm at about 70K and nowhere near minimum rotor thickness?? I use organic pads which are easier on rotors, but still - rotor replacement at 28K seems excessive!

Any thoughts from someone who has played with both D1 and D2?

Bill

I think rotor replacement at 28K doesn't sound right. Could be wrong here. I drive about 50 miles a day - 1/2 of which is stop and go. I am not questioning your judgement Eric but how can you tell besides the vibrations? When you get them changed please let me know how it went etc..
