I have a 2001 Disco II SE, leftover purchased last month. Love it. The way the deal works in my house is my wife drives the new cars so her & mini-me are safe. I drive my "old" car until the new car becomes old. This time I am looking forward to that. My "old" car is a 95 jeep...have done enough off roading to know running boards would last 5 minutes on the trail....but the Disco isn't going to see any abusive offroading until it's my daily driver (2004). Since it's relegated to safe on-road family transport for now I want to add running boards or step rails purely for the ding protection. I made the mistake of buying an Xterra before the rover and one thing I will say is the step rails on the X did a great job of catching the accidential door dings before they became door dings. So, smiles aside any experience with OEM or vendor parts here ?

LOL

IMO, when used for intended purpose, RT sliders place too much leverage on the door sill. At least, when, say, 70% of a Disco's weight is placed at a single point at the slider.

but - as a running boards, nothing beats them.

if you want something a little more than ordinary side steps - get the arb ones. beefier than manik or oem - but not as hard core as a pure slider. they run about $300 for two.

Get sliders. Then add steps (bolt on) for family. In 2004, remove steps!

For a general idea about install - go to the Tech Section above

AB Slider on the left frame and voila. Although I am sure they are all different might give you an idea
