I looked into a set before. Get a set of 8MM Magnecor wires (For the money the best wires made)Also he has a special for LR, RR , Discos
Excellent customer service. And for plugs I like the 4 prong Bosch, Your stock system wont even tap those...

I have the jacobs, i am not really happy with the quality because the insulator seems to be rather weak. The warranty is good though, lifetime replacement with no questions asked. I'd also stay away from the Magnecor, they don't look like anything special and seem really overpriced. 2 wires I do like are the MSD super conductor and Accel 300+. You can get a universal set in both for around 60 and the quality is really good. I think the Magnecor "special price" is almost 100 for the 8.5mm. As far as plugs, the standard bosch plat. are great but the +4's seems to shroud the spark too much especially in the poor head design of the rover.

The Bosch +4 are all marketing driven. Here is a 1918 Bosch ad with a +3 tip. WHY did it take them soooooo long to add one more?? It's snake oil.

How can you say over priced? Do you have a set or is this an opinion based on other opinions based on BS, Read the information on his site.

The Magnecor wires are solid built made of the highest quality material, I have over 45K on my set

NGK plugs + Magnecor wires are a good combo. Got -em on both Rovers (one set 8.5 and one set 8mm)with great results.

Why buy a "universal" set of wires when you can get an at least equal set(probably better IMO)already cut to length and terminated?

NGK used to use them, How are ther new lines?

I saw some adds for a Silver Core Spark plug any one know the name?

DD, sorry you spent so much for wires but that's no reason to jump on me. As far as "opinion based BS" just about everything on this site is opinion based.
There's almost no fact here, it's all personal experience. If you read the magnecor site, you'll see that the only difference between the wires is the insulator thickness. All the conductors are the same. Considering the increase in insulation is 1.5mm for almost double the price, yes I do think they are overpriced. 1.5mm of silicone doesn't justify the cost to me, but if it's too your liking then so be it. If it's got something other than what is stated on the site then please enlighten me as I do not personally own a set. I do have the jacobs on the truck now, and have used the other wires I mentioned.

I'm also sorry you refer to the MSD as ricky racer crap. I've always liked their stuff and have had good luck with it. I have used the MSD 6AL, Mallory Hyfire, Crane Fireball, and Accel ignition components on various vehicles. My personal favorites are the Mallory and MSD.

Then you state, "Try to get next day service from MSD or Acel. And custom lengths no extra charge"

Next day service is no problem, because I can drive to the local speed shop or marine supply store and buy the wire, terminals, or even an entire spool if I want to.

And lastly,"I post on honest trial and evaluations. If your going to find fault with it back it up with more than an opinion.."

LOL, that's total crap. Nobody knows you are honest, nobody knows you from john doe. It's all opinions! Now if you did an ignition wire study along the lines of the mini-mopar oil filter study then maybe I might give you more credit than joe nobody but till then forget it. Unless you cut open each of your wires and measured resistance, measured the actual diameter in mm, and photographed the effects of heat on different plug wires then you have no right to call my opinion BS.

I use the +1 platinum bosch with the 8mm Magnecor and found they run the best as opposed to LR oem wires/champion plugs and LR OEM wires/regular NGK plugs and Magnecore wires/champion plugs. Thats the best combo I could find for my Disco. As for MSD or Accel, you probably won't notice a difference. I like the magnacores because they fit right and appear long lasting. Hey, to each his own...

Also, a dollar for a spark plug in 1918? Thats probably like $20 per plug today! That's a lot, considering a nickel got you ring side seats at the local boxing match and a dozen eggs to pelt the loser.

Why bother with Bosch? There's always Champion Truck plug - i simply cannot see how one can fail.

I had them in the oil-burning jeep mill, gap opened to 0.06", MSD 6A + MSD wires + MSD high-voltage coil, and they never failed.

BTW, one time i bought a set of Bosch Platinums - their tiny center electrodes fouled within a few miles. Never more.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By p m on Thursday, December 13, 2001 - 05:53 pm: Edit

if you're asking about MSD wires and Champion plugs, go to your nearest Kragen/ Checker /Shucks(sp?) parts store.
