I just ordered my ARB bumper no airbag for my 97 disco. I want to fit a warn winch 9500.
With which little smoker I must go?
HS 9500 or HS 9500i?
I like the look of HS9500i but I dont know if it will fit into my bumper.
any ideas?

If you must - either, but be aware of the following:
>neither winch will fit! You must fab some 3/8"-1/2" thk spacers to push the winch away from the face of the bumper. You will probably also have to grind some of the internal web of the bumper to clear the motor housing. I say "probably" because I had to do it on Dom's bumper, yet another ARB too one without any grinding and the same thickness spacer. I guess ARB's are built like Rovers LOL
> If you use an integrated solenoid winch, then the solenoid housing will be horizontal and will want to act like a water scoop. Not a good combination. Not sure if you could even seal it up enough (?)
>Haven't tried the remote solenoid, but it would probably be better.
>Better suggestion - get the Warn 12K and it drops right in - just a bit heavy.
This isn't the end all and be all of winch info - just what I've seen recently on a couple installs.

thanks Bill,
but
1)the Warn 12K doesn't come to Greece
2)if I import it from US it will cost me a fortune.

How about the 8274?
That fits with spacers easily I am TOLD.
Otherwise you need spacers. You definately want one WITHOUT the i so you want the HS9500
Keep in mind it mounts feet forward so if you bought the HS 9500i it would have the extended part facing back.
M12000 or M10000 (not available in US but still available in Australia) fit

Sorry - didn't realize that. Strange you can get a small one but not the big boy?
Out of curiosity, what does either "little smoker" run you in Greece?

It (HS9500) should fit, you just need to make some spacers for it.
Bill B, how thick were the spacers on Dom's truck (XD9000i and ARB)?
Like maybe 1/2"-3/4" would do it? Just some strap steel and a drill is what you need. Then you grind a bit on the bumper where the arc is to let the motor fit. Not hard. I "think" you would be better with a XD9000 as the HS9500 has the cooling fins so you would have to grind/space more.

M12000 bolts in.

Petros - not sure if that is USD$1300.00, but if it is, you might be better off buying a 12K here (about $875) and paying the shipping. I'd be glad to help you from my end if you needed it....

Ron - woops - forgot to answer your query.... I think that steel strap we cut up was either 3/8 or 1/2"

Just out of curiosity is that the Warn M12000 for $875 and if so where did you find it at that price?

ah, Dom, good to see you.
email me at the yahoo address I got some news for you.
Petros you might need more than 3/8th with the HS 9500 due to the fins on the motor but someone who has first hand experience with it will know for sure.
Cheers
Ron
$875 is from the super secret source, have to email bill b or I to get the info

+ 250 clearing through the customs =1491
if everything goes OK.
If not I dont know...

Clemson 4 wheel... call them for a M12K quote and $10 shipping. It's around $900 total.
